Smith and Elliott go back more than 20 years. Elliott's manager, Steve Gillis, contacted the Roosters, and Smith was in favour of the idea. The players at the Roosters never warmed to Brandon Costin as an assistant. Elliott is a great communicator and players' coach - the Roosters like the fact that he is a Bondi United junior. Elliott will make a difference at the club, and Smith knows it. Smith's knockers have just been waiting to jump into him. Yes, the club is disappointed, but there are no moves to punt Smith.
