  • 2nd halves

Probably too early to tell but would we have won yesterday if we had put in the second half from Rd 1?

Just wondering if our match fitness is improving by the week to become an 80 minute team.

i think the 1/2s combination will get better as the year goes on. 2nd game together. I dont think match fitness is the problem i think its more over playing the ball trying to score off every play

Mate I don't think it's fitness. We just have players in our team that have brain explosions. And I don't think we have a dominant leader to tell them to pull their head in. The second half of the GC game was the perfect example of that.
Heaven help any team if we get our discipline right and start respecting possession.

Yep, we made 6 errors a half yesty, and I know we play that up tempo style yet we do play like we need to beat teams by 40. Surely there is a happy medium between being patient and going for it when needs be. We have to embrace the grind at times (usually second half from the last 2 weeks) and show some composure that will develop during the season.(but not too late!)

They throw the ball around like a millionaire throws twenty-dollar bills. We are our own worst enemy.

Not sure millionaires know such a low denomination exists

Gould mentioned something about plane cancellations from Gold Coast meant coach to Brisbane to fly back home. Shortened already short turn around. Perhaps this played a role. No excuses next week with plenty of rest and prep time

The more I think about it the more I'm starting to accept it. Performances in the first 5 rounds are largely volatile due rust, experience, new combos, teething issues & fatigue all playing large parts in a teams performance at the beginning of a season.

Yet we are still 2 from 2 and we have played some extremely good footy at times. Jake Friend made a good point in the press conference, these are individual errors that certain players need to address, this isn't a structural problem or a talent problem, if it was then there would be cause for concern.

I think as the weeks go on and we get more footy into the team our performances will become more polished but that may be another couple of weeks away.

By the end of this week there will only be a handful of teams who are 2/2 and we will be one of those, lets enjoy that.

Look at our poor second half performances over the last few seasons and it is always the same bs. We win the arm wrestle in first half and score tries against a tiring defence. After half-time, we skip the arm wrestle and continue playing touch footy, and unsurprisingly it doesn't work against a well-rested defence.
