Paul Carter’s career at the Roosters is hanging by a thread after a series of indiscretions on the drink.
The troubled forward was supposed to be out of the team that played Canterbury on Thursday night because he was ‘injured’ - yet he turned out for Roosters feeder team Wyong in the NSW Cup two days later on Saturday.
Carter is a great talent but has a real problem with alcohol and was sacked by his last two clubs - Gold Coast and Souths - for incidents on the drink.
The son of Panthers legend Steve Carter has been spotted at pubs around the east in recent weeks - when he has told people he was on a self-imposed alcohol ban.

    What a shame.

It's just hard to believe someone could throw away a prosperous NRL career because they can't get off the piss.

In all seriousness the consumption of alcohol is legal and if he's not breaking any laws by doing it so who cares what he does., what a nanny state we now live in.

But when he's had a few indiscretions whilst drinking I think an NRL employer has the right to put in place an alcohol ban.

Especially when any future indiscretion would bring the club negative publicity.

Must be more to it than just having a few beers.

They would be stupid too. Over 90% of addicts relapse whether its alcohol, drugs or smoking. It's part of the process in recovering.

What needs to be provided is some context first. Lets get real no one has any idea what's going on and jumping to assumptions isn't fair.

They are Football players not Priests I think it's fair to accept young guy's with plenty of money with alot of spare time will get into michief as long as no laws are broken and it doesn't interfere with his performance who cares.

Nah those days are over. NRL players need to either behave themselves according to societal standards or be invisible. If drinking is more important to Carter than his football career that is a shame. As R6 points out it is all speculation at this point and that may not be very fair to Carter.

And possibly cost us sponsorships or corporate support.

No one says he can't drink but it is scientifically proven that consuming alcohol impacts on the bodies ability to recover from training, maintain fitness levels. So yeah he can drink as much as he likes as long as he doesn't break the law, but not if he wants to be a professional football player. How would his team mates feel knowing that one guy in the team won't be able to perform to his potential because he can't avoid having a drink?

I doubt the media would name names if they didn't have factual evidence to back up, otherwise he could easily take legal action for slander. Normally the media will not print a name when posting rumours they cannot substantiate.

C'mon mate you give the media far too much credit. They are a pack of dogs sniffing around in the hope they can end someone's career. And the problem is, they are accountable to no one. Which is why they wouldn't hesitate to name names if it suited them.

I thoroughly agree with your previous post. Whether they like it or not their are social standards to conform to. And alcohol is no good at all for recovery and rehab. In saying that I have no probs with players having a beer or two in the proper time frames before and after games where it doesn't affect recovery. Unfortunately tho some ppl should not drink at all. Either they can't stop at one or two or their demeanour changes and they become angry etc.

I can assure you he has been on the drink Ive seen it with my own eyes. I also know he has other issues and due to this I also know he borrows money off other people and doesnt pay it back.
