You seriously believe they will out him without proof. We do have defamation laws in this country. It is why they gossip writers rarely ever do. You can deny it as much as you like but there is fact to this one.

Thanks Andy, you are a highly credible poster too. Some people like to keep their heads in the sand.

Only reason the club has put a ban in place is he must have form, and not just form as a footy player having a few. Form as a man who can't help himself when on the drink.

There are plenty of functioning alcoholics out there, but most of them hide it. What I really don't get is why these blokes with a problem do it out in public.

I suppose it's because they are in denial. The whole thing is just sad.

For what it is worth, I've been told the same thing from some really reliable sources about a month ago. He really is a talent, but his drinking is a liability... I'd hate another season to be derailed like last year.

They rarely name names in the way they have. If you saw the Andrew Webster article, he went to town on him. The sort of stuff which would be a slam dunk case for defamation if there was no truth to it. Big word that, defamation, 4 syllables. Bet you don't hear that in your sheltered workshop.

It won't be because he is for all intents and purposes, a Wyong player currently.

I wonder whether this is related to John Lee leaving. I believe Carter was his pet project

I thoroughly agree with your previous post. Whether they like it or not their are social standards to conform to. And alcohol is no good at all for recovery and rehab. In saying that I have no probs with players having a beer or two in the proper time frames before and after games where it doesn't affect recovery. Unfortunately tho some ppl should not drink at all. Either they can't stop at one or two or their demeanour changes and they become angry etc.
Unfortunately Carter fits into at least one of those categories if he does indulge man.

They'll carefully word it so that they have 'proof' of what is said, while sending everybody a hidden message.

Not gonna deconstruct the whole thing word by word, but the key points are:
                        - He has a history with alcohol
                        - He didn't play for the Roosters on the weekend
                        - People have spotted him at pubs
                        - He has a self-imposed [not club-imposed] booze ban

If... FOR EXAMPLE... he had been ejected from a pub for pulling a girl along by the hair then they'd say that (funnily enough no defamation claims there from Mr Roberts). Instead, they are basically just saying somebody saw him at a pub (breaking no rules by doing so).

NEVER... he's up there with JWH, Napa, Cords, Mauba, Liu, Guerra...etc [sarcasm].

Look he's 19th man this week and has just as much luck of playing as Tim Browne. Chris Smith and Zane Tetevano were always named above him to play last week... has to be some conspiracy that they were above him in the pecking order :P

Actually most of the time they don't publish allegations with names without proof to back it up. They may not make that proof public, but they would have it in the background.

If they don't have the evidence they won't print the names and make up a gossip column about it, but if Carter has been named and shamed in a publication, you can guarantee they have something concrete to back it up.

It's a shame about Carter, but not a surprise. Rehab doesn't work in the first instance for many people with additions, whatever they may be. He may need to take more time out of the game and get himself sorted. And if he won't take that step, the Chooks may need to cut him loose - just as the Titans and Filthy Vermin did.
