  • 5th tackle option

    Are we not allowed to
    1. Kick a few passes wide
    2. Run the ball
    3. A short one behind the line
    4. Find the grass with long kicks
    5. lower crossfield kick to Toops ( not a bomb)
    Etc etc etc
There are a dozens of variations but we utilize 1.. THE BOMB !!!! If we're going to continue to bomb which i have no doubt we will, can we pleeeeease make it a spiral !!
I know it gets mentioned on here a lot but **** its frustrating

people still don't realise after all these years that the bomb is defensive and the opposition starts their set from as deep as possible in their own half

This is seriously hilarious! When on our halfway approximately trust me mate i know how a bomb works re. chase, time, def line. I suggest though you look at where a lot of our bombs are 'launched' from

Spiral bombs are slightly easier to catch, harder to execute as a kicker & have little to no difference in hang time.

There's a reason why spiral bombs when out of fashion.

I actually called for a try when keary scored on the 4th tackle so we didn't have to endure another fu?!ing bomb

WTF, spiral bombs are slightly easier to catch? Penrith were only in the game against us because of how well Cleary executed the spiral, our back three are still having nightmares

Sometimes they actually have less hang time, they come down in an awkward fashion and find the ground which then becomes a lottery. I can't remember someone dropping a Pearce drop punt style bomb

I agree that those 'defensive' last tackle kicks are disappointing but I'd take one of them over a 7 tackle set due to ball going dead, any day. I say run it on the last more. Probably amounts to same thing as one of Pearce's kicks anyway, in terms of turn-over and field position.

                    I totally disagree R6..
Check out our game against the Panthers when Cleary was giving our back 3 nightmares..

Yeah - a torpedo from distance down the throats might be easier to catch (even that's debatable), but one of those Anasta torp bombs - Freddy did them too - are clearly at worst a wildcard.

If there is a bit of a breeze the spiral can move away from you before you know it, the floater seems to be the hardest to catch, just hangs there swaying and very easy to miss time and judge. The end over end is as basic as it comes, and most common because it is easier to kick it to where you want, but also the easiest to catch.

Everyone is catching on...even Milford did one last night but... Pearce still persists with a straight up bomb that allows the catcher to set comfortably and mostly catches while their other defenders set to block Toups or SKD. Keary should be 1st in charge of putting bombs or grubbers because he's a little better equipped with kicking as well as a little more creative in the running department.

Those are not spiral bombs those are floaters, completely different technique.

With a spiral bomb the drop of the ball is on an angle and generally hit slightly with the outside of the boot. What you see from players like Cleary & Reynolds is a floater where the ball is dropped straight & flat and hit with the top of you foot.
