  • Some thoughts on penalties

I've been focussing on the rucks in recent weeks. It seems whilst this year we are better at preventing offloads, we are failing to turn opposition on backs. Other teams seem to be coached to land on knees or stomachs for quick ptb..

I've also noticed how often we get turtled.

It seems refs reluctant to blow when a player is turned yet fast to blow when players on stomachs. Hence a reason for the penalty drought.

The better teams have faster ptbs and I'm seeing many tries off quick ptbs..

Does anyone have stats to back this up or dismiss this theory?

This is why guerra is showing good stats but takes forever o get off the ground either after tackling or being tackled. I fear he is past it and fear for team's like Titans who could pick him up.. anyway save this for a different thread

Bennett commented a few years back that there is a shift back to the Cronulla SL era tactic of the runner diving to get a quick play the ball.

    We don't do it.

touch footy style of footy. knees elbows i call it. when running with the ball hit the opponent get tackled with no resistance but control your landing by falling to your knees and elbows. most times you are up before the second or third defender. Your claim AXE that we are wrapping the ball up in tackles is wrong. watch the drongos game, thats how they killed us. the two upper body defenders are not locking up the ball allowing for the second phase. nearly every drongo player did this during that game.

In the history of the game has there ever been a side to receive just 3 penalties overall in 2 consecutive weeks? And the one against Newcastle was for accidentally offside

Not sure, but I can't remember another team also winning a penalty 9-0 against the broncos, how times have changed.

I posted this in another thread. There is nothing in what we do or don't do that influences the following:

Of the 7 rounds played, the Roosters have received the least penalties in three of these. It is interesting to see how much our opponents in these rounds have "improved their discipline" compared to their previous week:

Round 7 - Newcastle conceded 1 penalty to the Roosters. Previous week conceded 8.
Round 6 - Brisbane conceded 2 penalties to the Roosters. Previous week conceded 8.
Round 2 - Bulldogs conceded 2 penalties to the Roosters. Previous week conceded 6.

We won the penalty count in that game 8-2. But a fair point, we got a good deal once 15 years ago and should remember that whenever a Cummins or Badger screw us week after week.

We were on the right side of a lopsided penalty count fifteen years ago. Since we have probably been on the wrong side of one at least two dozen times.

The only explanation from the other day is bias. We had so much ball and put them under constant pressure yet we can't get one discretionary penalty? It's bias pure and simple.

round 3 for the dullbogs when they played the drongos it was 6 penalties conceeded from the dogs and 8 drongos

Fact is, we receive fewer penalties than all the other teams. As has been pointed out by other posters here, every other team concedes, on average, less penalties when they play us than against any other team. In a properly and fairly officiated competition this would be impossible. As betting agencies continue to lose large sums of money on Roosters games, (some of these betting agencies sponsor the NRL in one way or another), someone will point it out. Whether it is deliberate, or just incompetence will not matter in any investigation. The NRL, or at least some of the NRL board members past and/or present could find themselves in a very uncomfortable situation.(ie in the shower block at Long bay jail).

I mentioned this in another post, but on a serious note, is there anything at all we can do to stop the obvious bias against the roosters.

I thought after ANZAC DAY last year, after Robbo spending $40,000 of Nick's had earned money, that something might change. Nothing has friggin changed. See weekend Newcastle game.

It's like the refs are being coached using Roosters videos as resource material.
