I think this is a great addition, imo Taylor is one of the best assistant coaches in the game.

He's a very smart attacking coach and blokes like friend and some of our forwards are going to thrive again with him back.

Jason Taylor tweaking the techniques of Roosters playmakers

      May 16, 2017 7:37am
      AAP

HE’S been back all of one week, yet Sydney Roosters halves Mitchell Pearce and Luke Keary are already profiting from Jason Taylor’s technical tweaks.

Six days after Taylor returned for his second stint as Tricolours assistant coach, the Roosters’ attack found a new gear against Parramatta. Coincidence? Perhaps, but Pearce revealed his heavy influence in Sunday’s 48-10 rout was partly inspired by the recently sacked Wests Tigers coach. “He brought some nice little subtleties to our game last week,” Pearce told AAP.

“Just a couple of little changes, so he can have that win.

“He’s had a tough time, been battered from pillar to post so it was good to see him enjoy a win.”

Fellow playmaker Keary was equally significant, orchestrating three tries in a whole-team performance featuring three Blake Ferguson tries and Latrell Mitchell’s razzle-dazzle return to first grade.

“He (Taylor) has added a few little different things in already which has been good for my game personally and helped the whole team,” Keary said. “He’s obviously got a very good knowledge of the game, which I picked up pretty early on.”

Though maligned as a head coach, former NRL halfback Taylor is highly regarded as an attack mentor.

It was in that capacity the 46-year-old helped guide the Roosters to the 2013 premiership alongside then rookie head coach Trent Robinson, before delivering back-to-back minor premierships the following year.

Pearce hoped the pair’s reunion would steer the third-placed side to its first title since.

“In that period he helped me with my halfback play a lot,” Pearce said. “I’m a massive fan of JT, always have been.

“I can’t comment on him as far as being a head coach because I haven’t had him, but as assistant coach he’s all class.

“He’s technically really good, smart with the kicking game for halves, and technically with structures he’s a clever coach.

“Trent is, in my opinion, the best coach in the comp and them two together working with the attack I’m sure will hopefully get us some results.”

The spotlight is firmly on Pearce, in-form and widely expected to be named as NSW halfback when coach Laurie Daley unveils his State of Origin game one team on Monday night.

The 28-year-old is aware his contentious representative past and lack of on- field success have made him a polarising Blues figure.

But despite any past criticism, he was confident.

“I’m happy with who I am as a player at the moment and I know what I bring to a team,” he said.

The fact that Trent didn't hesitate to bring JT immediately back on board shows how highly regarded he is as an assistant by the club.

Do you put the weekend down more to Latrell or Taylor being back?

I put it down to ball control and support play. 20/21 completions first half and everyone was pushing up in support.

If SKD was at centre then that first try simply isnt scored. Latrell is probably one of 3 or 4 centres that could have done that. So he played a huge part

But it was more that the whole team was well and truly 'on'.

How ironic that we have had the 8th immortal Andrew Johns involved in our attack for the last 1.5 years and we've been pedestrian in that area. Yet one week after a failed coach arrives we put on 48 points and look pretty slick all round in attack.

I have never ever been in favor of A. Johns having anything at all to do with our great club.

Was a great player but still not sold on his immortal status. Adding to that his self confessed drug usage, there is no way he should be mentioned in the same sentence as some of the others.

If we had lost on the weekend we'd all be on here calling for Taylor's head😂

I am sold on his immortal status. Best I had seen until Thurston took over for mine in 2015.

                    Johns is easily Immortal class.

A more rounded player than Thurston.

Remember, half the game is defence. And Joey was a great defender where as JT is a liability in the defensive line.

Fittler by the same token is a more rounded player than JT too. Took his side to 4 GFs in 5 years.

JT has never led his team to the same sort of consistent success.

Thurston didn't get close to a comp for 9 seasons (06-14) until he got the help he needed with Coote at the back and Morgan in the halves. And Morgan won that GF when JT was quite poor.

Joey however was partnered with the worst Premiership winning 5/8 in history in Sean Rudder. But it didn't matter because he was so good that he thrashed everyone in that finals series.

People forget just how good he was. Same with Fittler.

But they have got a better success rate in GFs.

What are your thoughts in relation to him staying an immortal after his drugs admission?

Lol it was recreational drug use.

You'd struggle to find a player who hasn't taken recreational drugs!

Who cares if Joey popped a few E pills. How on earth does that affect what he did on the field?

I am only reiterating what many have stated, Jason is a very good assistant coach which in this age of coaching group is a great addition to Trent as the head coach. Very happy to see him back. People management is a skill that is rarely demonstrated over the long term and deeply fatiguing and a head coach has to have great resilience to do it week in week out.
