"Hard as a rock, trained at The Block".

The old Block at Redfern has been demolished, replaced by a shiny new one.
    All good...'onward and upward'.

The 1967 Referendum [passed with a 90% Yes vote] delivered legal 'Rights and Liberties' to Aboriginal people.
Before that ... good luck if you were an Aboriginal person.

The Indigenous Round is worth supporting.

worth supporting to highlight the plight of Aboriginal people in our society; worth supporting to acknowledge the great contribution that Aborigines have made to Rugby League.
Artie would be my all time favourite player.

Many people have worked hard to right the wrongs and improve things.
Including the Sydney University students on the 'Freedom Ride' bus in 1965.
And Marcus Einfeld in the 1980s.

Then Einfeld turned the spotlight on neglect by walking with his trousers rolled up through the muddy, soiled streets of Toomelah and crying tears of shame and pity.
Einfeld cried at Toomelah, too, as Aborigines testified to their disadvantage. "It is beyond belief that Australian citizens could be asked to live in those circumstances," he said at the end of the first day's hearings.

        Indeed.

If only the modern jerseys had a version to fit fans who are not as thin as they once were...I'd purchase one and wear it for this round.
What about they make a fans version...and a players version.....of the Indigenous jerseys and other jerseys.

I live in the area and I still see people wearing the shirts occasionally, always puts a smile on my face.
Indigenous round is one of my favorites, seeing how proud the Indigenous players are of their culture (as they should be) makes for great watching and great footy.

It's also one of the areas in which we're miles ahead of the AFL.

Good point , I buy extra large playing jerseys and I understand the compression factor is essential when the boys play but it makes me look like an Italian Salami

I'm also a fan of Indigenous Round. Agree that the jerseys are usually great too. It would be nice to see Latrell lead the team out this week. Pardon my ignorance but what other current players at Easts have an Aboriginal background?

Also Connor Watson and Blake Ferguson in this weeks team. Grant Garvey, Bernard Lewis and Chris Smith also from the lower grades that I am aware of.

Ah cheers. I thought Connor was but wasn't sure. Am I correct in thinking Jake Friend is also indigenous? I seem to remember it came up a couple of years back.

No he isn't or at least doesn't identify as.

I'm not Indigenous, but I love those shirts. The slogan about says it all.

I think the ceremony at ANZ before the Dogs/Cowboys game last night was very well done by all concerned.

The young lady who sang the national anthem in 'language' then english was just brilliant.
She should be hired, and paid well, to sing the national anthem like that at the Grand Final, Origin, ANZAC Day [many Indigenous soldiers joined up and fought in wars]...etc.

Our national anthem should be sung like that all the time...as NZ does.

No but Jake does like a beer.

This all started quite a few years back because Artie had discovered Jake and a reporter misquoted something he said (yes, I know hard to believe! ) and for some reason the myth stuck. It's Ben Jones who has the indigenous background, not Jake.

One positive to me is that it makes us realise how many talented players are indigenous. Fifita surprised me for some reason (for example).

I don't actually like the all stars game because it's blacks v whites (essentially). The indigenous team generally win but it could easily be an exhibition where we see a bunch of poms and white players beating up the black players (and making them look silly by doing so). IMO it has potential to be really ugly... also it kinda suggests that black and white Australians are against each other (rather than cooperating and being on the same team). I just don't like it.

The all stars team does include NZ players you realise?
