  • They did what they should have been doing the entire year.

For some reason, apparently because of a change in the "interpretation of the ruck," which is the biggest myth in rugby league, we changed our style of play - the same style that got us to the Grand Final.

Now, let's say the ruck this year is much slower than last. OK. So how do you give yourself space and scope for the same razzle dazzle football that we enjoyed in 2010? Easy - second phase play. First game since Souffs Round 1 that players have backed themselves to throw an offload, and our attack benefits.

Smith has finally changed something, even if it was just to tell them to go for it.

That is the kind of football this team should be playing - the game reminded me of our early games last year. When you attack, and throw the ball around, you get more and more accustomed to the risks involved, and (like it did for us last year) it eventually clicks. It is just a pity that this year we couldn't have backed ourselves from Round 2, instead of deciding to revert to it so late on. Had we stuck with what worked for us, and not tried to be a team that grinds tea,s down (let's face it, we don't have that ability), we might be clicking by now on a run to the finals.

I'm happy that they won, but it just makes this year all the more disappointing, really.

Hopefully we can restore some pride and end the season JUST outside the top 8, with everybody under the pump, knowing they have to train hard during the off-season. IMO last year's GF was a mixed blessing because it brushed over our problems (we got close to missing out on the finals TBH... I was nervous during the last 1/4 of the season that we wouldn't get a place in the finals.)

This season if we can have a strong finish, but also have our work cut out for us during the off-season (rather than parties celebrating how we were nearly premiers and got heaps of Dally M's) I think we'll go well in 2012.

Hey Dhead...my comment was made whilst Civoneciva was sin binned. Scored a try from the next play and then did nothing. As soon as Petero gets back they score. Yeah happy about the 2 points but really, how many chances were blown... Now as I said to that other JERK, don't tell me what I should write about. You must be a commie trying to prevent from exercising the right to freedom of speech. You too Bugger OFF!!

              • I realise that it still wasnt a fantastic performance but instead of continuing to look for negatives lets just be content with the win, I am very happy for the boys!! I also didnt realise that phil graham could play that well, very surprising

                  • I will lay money on the table that matt Elliot was involved in making that game plan !

Georgalis would not have changed much from what Elliot had in place there, Panthers were easy pickings based pon that and we picked away.

We did what others have done to us all season, we forced them to play to our game plan, they loved using their forwards to get a roll on, we made them try and spread the ball. Reason why it worked for us, Penrith play compressed, quick shifts or cross field runs just stretched them and we reaped rewards.

Yes we made mistakes and probably should have won by another 20, but we did what we had to do and more and got the 2 points.

The positives to take out of this:

When we made mistakes....OUR HEADS DID NOT DROP, NO HANDS ON HIPS !!! That has been our BIGGEST PROBLEM, letting the shit plays get to us and not shaking it off and putting in again.

Today we kept the confidence up, mistake or no mistake. That got us the win.

Great work Roosters, lets carry this on to next week.

                        • I think having a few players back from injury has helped, SKD and Perret made plenty of ground from dummy half and Graham did well at Fullback. I thought Graham would be terrible at kick returns and under the highball but he did ok.

Scrappy........... but i prefer scrappy wins then scrappy loses.
