Technique is more important than size.
The Axe isn't very tall, and the bloke that played Chooks, ponies & rugby, both could cut anyone in half.
Even though the wrestle is in the game, you still need someone to hit them hard down low and drive them onto their backs.

Sam Moa could use his smaller frame well so i have no concerns about Butcher.
Even though he seems a bit smaller, he loves doing the tough stuff. Seemed confident in his NRL debut.

Butcher will develop into our version of Paul Gallen, plays the same style of game and has that real leadership quality that very good players have

I hope you are all right about Butcher. Seems a quality person off the field also.

Parramatta told a 19yr old Paul Gallen he was too small to play First Grade and released him. Nearly every NRL club turned away a teenage Jonathan Thurston cause he was too small.

So many other factors go into the make up of a league player to limit it to one and say that a player isn't going to make it because of attribute x or y is ridiculous.

If Butcher has what it takes to crack at the NRL then size wont matter, history has shown that time and time again.

Cowboys said Slater was too small.

                      Oops.

Slater, Thurston aren't forwards so bad comparison.
I think Butcher is too small to be a dominant forward.
Just my opinion and I respect all of your opinions.

It's acceptable to consider size, especially in forwards. What's important is the balance it has to the team. Cant have a small pack

                            Again, he's only 19.

In a couple of year he'll probably weigh 100-105kg. Is that not enough?

Brad Clyde is probably the best lock forward of the last 40 years and he weighed about 100kg.

If you're good enough you're big enough.

R6 - Interesting comment. I wonder if there's any correlation with what i'm about to write.

Ex-Parra coach Smith never named the player in question, however i recall him telling the story of a smallish framed local Parra junior he turned away one off season, only to see the very same bloke months down the track playing for a rival Sydney club with a much broader, beefed up physique. The player cracked NRL and went on to bigger things. Hmmm

Fair point. Dallas Johnson went ok. Nathan Long too. Mark Protheroe also went well once transitioning to the second row.
