  • One premiership every 5 years.

That's what our club should strive for. We've publically stated that we play for premierships and with the way we recruit I feel an aim for a competition win every 5 years is a reasonable one or is my thinking wishful? I'm probably being over confident but I really believe we can win this year and with the addition of Tedesco next season we should only be better. Now that I've written that we'll probably lose 5 in a row.

why would we aim for premierships when they're only given out by the nrl

I don't think we can win it this year. Like you say with Tedesco next year and one more quality front rower i think we would have the team to win it ( you still need luck with injuries ) I don't buy into the NRL decides who wins it

Well in that case the we're owed 4 from 1980 to 2000...Funny that we lost in 1980 and lost in 2000. Thanks Sticky for 2002..( i can just see the volcano about to erupt for mentioning Sticky hahaha)

Whist this is true we did overcome all odds to win in 2013.

I think politics can influence how the season pans out but like in 2013... the better team can always win. There's no direct rigging going on, it's just that policies can favour certain teams.

Not sure against all odds, we got to play the knights for a spot in the grand final, probably the easiest passage a team could get from what I can remember,we played manly twice in the finals, who had the second worst penalty stats behind us, we won the penalty count 5-2(or close to that)in the GF, we didn't get a player sin binned for 10min when Lyon was held back,we got some some nice 50/50 calls with the refs penalising manly when JWH head butted a manly player, and we got a nice call when Maloney threw that forward pass for the SKD try.

I would take that run any day.

It was either a sin binning or a penalty try. Couldn't be both.

Also Maloney's pass wasn't forward imo.

And finally Many's first try involved a blatant shepherd.

Still, I would say that we slightly got the edge from the ref that day.

A pleasant surprise. The fact Manly had already won two comps in the previous 5 years may have had something to do with it subconsciously.

but those instances milanja mentioned are what manly fans look to when talk about being robbed like our fans do for other games I think it was minichiello's pass considered forward manly melbourne and us wouldn't be allowed to win 3 years in a row if it was rigged as people say

I would take the penalty try every time over a player in the bin for 10min and the 2 points for the shot at goal.

Every time i talk to non roosters I defend that pass to high heaven, but in my honest opinion I thought it was well forward.

Funny how both teams that played in that grand final were the only teams that conceded the most penalties over 200( manly 206, roosters 224, and received amongst the least with 161 and 173) yet were stil a class above.

Can't believe Newcastle beat the storm which In turn meant we didn't have too?

Agree on the sheppard on manly 1st try.

Right so we should only take the comp seriously every 5 years?

I prefer the current direction where we are trying to win every year (although some seasons it might not seem that way).

Got NFI how we plan our recruitment and retention. IMO sometimes you just can't guess what's gonna happen there. Had EVERYTHING gone our way, I dunno if we woulda won as many premierships anyway. Many have been through the luck of a combination of players combining well under the right circumstances on the right day.
