Right now GWS are playing in front of a poor home crowd, the hurricanes in NZ are playing in front of a poor home crowd.
As long as TV money is coming in, nobody cares about home crowds any more, and if the club actually gave a crap, they would reduce ticket prices by half, and try to attract double the crowd, more people means more people buying merchandise, food and going back to the club to spend more money there.

I agree with milanja it's all about television that matters as that's where the real money is getting crowds in is a bonus I remember a couple of years ago watching an american guy speak about this and say that one day maybe 15 20 years in the future nobody will be attending gridiron games but it will be far and away the most watched sport in america because it's broadcast in such a way that's designed to make as much money as possible but also when it's actually broadcasting the game it's done in such a way that's much more captivating to the viewers less hassle of going to the game and spending money etc

correct tracksuit you only went to the games in the past because it wasn't on television to watch and you couldn't see it but why would you go to the game when it's on television these days everything is expensive on the day because they think you're silly for coming instead of staying home

They will more than likely support us. Adelaide absolutely hates Melbourne because of the AFL and previously SAFL and VFL rivalry.
The only thing people in Adelaide hate more than a Melbourne Football team is the other Adelaide AFL team lol.Originally posted by Bondi Boy
Pathetic!
What a rabble we are.
Oh well, maybe next year

Some games will always attract decent crowds eg ANZAC Day and other blockbuster clashes eg Bulldogs Souffs Good Friday, Broncos games generally, origin and finals but what you have posted here is very true.FVCK CANCER

Yep and that's because of the stuff surrounding those sorts of fixtures. Not primarily focussed on the game itself.
the most disappointing crowds are in the finalsLast edited by boogie; 05-21-2017, 09:14 AM.

Because they only have about 8 home games a year, and half of them are against their division rivals, makes each one of those games huge for the fans. And let's not forget the population factor over there too.
I was lucky enough to buy tickets to the pats-giants game at MetLife stadium( and was happy to pay $500 a pop) I got the tickets through a ticket agent that sells the tickets of people who can't attend that match. There was 80000 people, easy to get to the game by train, people who can't get tickets to the game watch it in the stadium car parks and have BBQ, TVs and radios out there. It is crazy to see so many people willing to go to that extent to watch a game. When we got back to the city after the game, the sports bars were overflowing and they have about 30 Tv with every sport on them, it's a culture thing, and I would be amazed if that was the sport that became a Tv sport only.
AFL in Melbourne for a few teams is the closest we will see to that type of fan craziness, and as boogie said, broadcasting every game live has made it too easy for the fan to enjoy the game from the lounge chair, any sign of rain before a match back before it was shown live, would still get most people wanting to go and take a chance, it was almost a challenge or dare. Now you don't have to worry about carrying that umbrella, parkas for the kids, running through the muddy car park to get everyone to the car and driving home in the rain, because it doesn't rain in your lounge room, where drinks and snacks are a shout out away!

These days the nrl is all about money and their bottom line. They really don't give a crap about attendances at games, it's about creating a product for sponsors.
For the fans going to games, they are so far down the food chain that they have become irrelevant. They have destroyed country rugby league. Every team should play one game per yr in the bush. All this short sightedness is quite sad.

I don't like having home games in Adelaide but I wouldn't mind having a couple of home games at Central Coast Stadium per year. The Central Coast is pretty much a junior district of the Roosters now, so I don't think it would be a bad thing to have a couple of home games there every year. It could result in more supporters/members.
