Pearce's crime was stupidity. Getting drunk to a point where he was with people he couldn't trust and who dogged him (no pun intended). Who hasn't gotten drunk and done something silly.

Being drunk is not an excuse. If someone chooses to drink, they choose to lose control of their actions thus making them accountable for whatever may happen in contrast to if they were sober and in control.

He copped the rough end of the pineapple no doubt but that pineapple was planted by the actions of other idiots like Carney and Monaghan, just name a couple and the NRL didn't want any more of that sort of publicity so, in my opinion, decided to send a message at Pearceys expense.

So it looks like they won't intervene and are happy with Jesse Bromwich's 2 week ban. And Josh Papalii's 1 week ban.

So just remember folks...

Get caught with cocaine outside a nightclub - 2 weeks
Admit to a drink driving charge - 1 week
Be drunk and act stupid at a private residence - 8 weeks and 125k

I lost faith in the NRL a while back but this just takes the cake.

They're a shameful administration. Grossly incompetent and I can't wait for the clubs to revolt and demand a complete management overhaul.

And this is why I've lost a lot of passion for the game. I still love my chooks, but the NRL admin want to control the winners each year.

The NRL didn't decide Pearce's punishment. The media did.

I must be one of the 24% Boogie. What Pearce did was idiotic but I think 8 weeks was too long. In saying that, it was a blessing in disguise for Pearce's future.

It would not surprise me one bit that the NRL makes up the rules as they go on....

I agree, that Josh Massoud is a cancer of the game as he only reports on the negatives and really ruin's the lives of some of these players. Could we really care less about what Todd Carney or Mitchell Pearce do in their own private time. Both those incidents in my opinion do not cause negative publicity to the game, they are just simply young people having fun at private events with people and like all of us when the stress of your job gets to you, everyone has a right to vent out and have some fun.

What I do not like is that there have been nearly an entire starting 17 line up in the past 5 years being charged by police for criminal offences (whether guilty or not guilty) and yet no long term suspensions or fines have been issued to any player because of that. I find it very embarrassing that the NRL thinks that this behavior is acceptable by not punishing players more harshly then they should. I mean taking cocaine now is a 2 strike policy where in any other sport it is once caught, YOU ARE GONE!!!!!

W hat will a 2 game suspension do for taking drugs, and a 1 game suspension for drink driving do to the image of the game??? You've just told the kids out there that drugs and alcohol are tolerated in the game as they won't be so harsh on your punishment only if you act stupid at a private function and get caught on film you will get SEVERELY PUNISHED FOR BEING NORMAL!!!!

Greenberg, Grant & Archer have to be gone some time very soon or else it is the end of Rugby league in Australia...

And the cocaine accused players are all due to miss at least 8 games, and the senior official caught stood himself down.

Agreed. While I've never been Pearce, I've previously been a heavy drinker. Drinking never changed my personality. All it really did was make me dance like an idiot (in a small jazz bar while nobody else was dancing) and go to sleep on a couch in that bar (regularly - in the morning I'd help the owner clean up and make him a coffee/breakfast before we walked to the hotsprings to relax). During this time I never did anything that I would be ashamed of if it was posted on Facebook (FWIW people have posted movies of my dancing on FB... I laughed). On the other hand my mate got drunk, tried to hit on the bar owner's wife and then tried telling him 'she wants me more than you'... when the bar owner and his Mrs said 'GTFO YOU ARE BANNED FROM OUR BAR YOU D-BAG' he refused to leave and had to be ejected.

My mind has this blocker in it that says 'you can behave like an absolute frigging retard, but DO NOT do x, y and z (trying to hit on the bar owner's Mrs, claiming she wants me and refusing to leave would be three of those things)'. IMO people who do that kinda stuff while drunk woulda done it even if they weren't drunk.

Back to Pearce. I think he would accept that what he did was stupid.I think the punishment was disproportionate, BUT... on the flip side I think he's learned from it. Will James Roberts, Jesse Bromwich, Kevin Proctor...etc ever learn or will people around them just know that they are filthy buggers? I dunno, but I'm glad that Pearce didn't 'get off' like the others because it comes down to what our club stands for. The Broncos, Storm and Titans are all dirt IMO and have no standards other than 'do what it takes to win'. If thatbinvolves making sure a club 'loses' or 'refuses to release' footage of an assault that they know happened then I think that's their business. I'm glad to know we don't do that shyte!

I don't buy into that whole image of the game thing. I think it's a massive overreaction.

I don't know one parent who would stop their kids playing rugby league because of those incidents.

I'm not a drinker but the fact both Proctor and Bromwich say they were so drunk they don't remember the incident smells like crap to me.

Is that even a thing?
