I don't think he was ever really that good to be honest. Looked okay in a crap side in 2009, but has struggled in nearly every game other than the Souths game when all he really did was run over the top of Sandow....not like he's the first player to ever do that.Originally posted by TheLoneRooster View PostComment

I think the talent is there, but Symonds is playing with fear, or at the very least hesitation.
He doesn't run full pelt at holes anymore, he hangs back and waits. A few times yesterday had he hit an angled run at pace, he would've been through, but he hesitated and got covered easily by the Panthers left edge defence.
It is probably because of his injuries.
Needs a bit of time to get back to running confidently with the ball again.Comment

Symonds strength is his line running and hole running. As a team, we have had no structure in attack, so there has been no real running of lines or angles all year. Hence the best part of Symonds game has been rendered useless. Same can go for Maubs poor form this year before injury.
That said, Symonds really needs to work on the half of the game when we don't have the ball. His defence is poor which he will need to rectify if he is going to play first grade.Comment

Taka is running harder, fending well, improving on what he did early 2010. Tom "the peacock" was a reliable, classic style defender but has struggled playing in closer, at a guess the shoulder or bicep troubles him in defence, and he's still in pain. Did tackle Petro very well.Comment

I'd like to see him get around 30-35 mins a game. Needs a bit more work on his fitness if they're going to be all quality though. Against the panthers I think he only played around 20 at the end and had some very impressive touches. If he is to be used for such limited minutes I think he needs to be utilized more while he's on. I've noticed he gets used as a decoy a lot when he's going at full steam from 15 metres back. Just give the bloke the ball and support him!!
Will be very interesting to see if he keeps his spot when Tasi and Cordner come back from injury over the next 2 weeks. I doubt any will be named in front of fpn but I would hope they get a chance ahead of symonds. He has looked very weak and heartless at times this season.Comment
