Local Junior Tom Symonds extends contract
    Thursday, May 28, 2009

The Sydney Roosters have today signed Tom Symonds to an extended deal that will keep him at the club until at least the end of 2011.

The Bondi United junior made his first grade debut last Saturday night against the Penrith Panthers, graduating from the Toyota Cup.

Last season’s under 20s player of the year has progressed through all the representative junior ranks and is the first local junior to progress through the system since Luke Ricketson.

His grandfather founded Bondi United, where Symonds played since he was 5, and the 20-year-old was keen to remain in the East.

    __________

Great to see a local junior!

Current updated contract situation is now:

    2009

    Anthony Minichiello (fullback)
    Riley Brown (hooker)
    Nate Myles (prop/backrow)
    Shane Shackleton (prop/backrow)
    Anthony Cherrington (backrow)
    Rohan Ahern (backrow)
    Matthew Hall (backrow)
    Javarn White (fullback)

    2010

    Jordan Tansey (utility)
    Sisa Waqa (wing)
    James Aubusson (hooker)
    Willie Mason (backrow)
    Nick Kouparitsas (backrow)
    Lopini Paea (prop)
    Mose Masoe (backrow)
    Stanley Waqa (prop)
    Martin Kennedy (prop)
    Jake Friend (hooker)

    2011

    Ben Jones (utility)
    Mitchell Aubusson (centre/backrow)
    Braith Anasta (five-eighth/lock)
    Shaun Kenny-Dowall (wing)
    Ryan Williamson (centre)
    Tom Symonds (five-eighth/lock)

    2012

    Sam Perrett (fullback/wing)
    Boyd Cordner (backrow)
    Setaimata Sa (backrow/centre)

    2013

    Mitchell Pearce (halfback)

I do not know the contract lengths of the other U20's players, although I think that Luke Towers and Mark Talanoa are here till the end of this season at least, according to last seasons contract page. I am not 100% sure on the contract situations of squad members Sonny Tuigamala and FP Nuuausala either, although a recent article stated that FP Nuuausala has recently re-signed on a long term deal.

The club has many problems. The only probable reason we re-signed Symonds was because we probably forgot he was a local junior, as follows the trends of our player retention policy.

Phantom, you must accustom yourself to the ways of the Roosterfari! A powerful, deep language, that speaks truth on a philosophically enlightening level!

            ...haha.

The calcium kid ...aka Quentin....aka Ryan Cross. He was a junior. he was broken more times than not. He was also our best centre in the past decade.

Fletch was a Jnr with Paddo Colts, Rubes even played in our Jnrs b4 Souffs, he played for Bondi United. Also Dymock played in our Jnrs most of his life. Even Field was an Easts Jnr, played in the same team as Dymock for years Paddo Colts, FFS he was an Easts Ballboy.

There are a few others inbetween who were graded thru our Jnrs, but only played a handful of 1st grade games. Foley and Napoli are two names who come to mind. The media like to make out we have NEVER had a Jnr in 100yrs, anything to keep the myths and cliches alive.

Shame most of the gooduns had to go to Souffs to get graded. Our set up has always pushed the good kids out of the area by discouraging them, mostly thru importing and playing outsiders, outcasts from other squads, over them. From what KB has said not alot has changed unfortunatley.

Good on them for signing this Symonds kid up, looks like he could just develop into a good player.
