IMO Watson will never be as good as Keary in the halves, actually he wont even be in the same ballpark. As a fullback, he won't ever be mentioned in the same breath as Tedesco. It's unfortunate but this is the best result for Connor himself and the club

He did look the goods at 5/8 last year and his only game at FB( I know in NSW Cup) he killed it and better judges than me rate him a better player than Keary at the same age- Not saying too much but we would be mad to release with a year to go on his contract - If he leaves after his contract is finished so be it - I know the club might say we wont stand in his way of a better deal - but what is our depth like if we do - who replaces Pearce- Cornish yet to play NLR and who replaces Keary ?? if they have long term/season ending injuries??

I would be retaining Watson, and moving Nikorama on, he is on big coin for a failed player, we signed the wrong brother, he hasent worked out for us, so let him go, and keep Watson, is the way to go.

Reading some stats the other day -Maloney is regarded the no 1 5/8th ....depending if Thurston is in the argument .Keary stats are double Maloneys .... so we have some genuine value there.
Keeping Keary means we have an experience campaigner to assist in winning a comp -short term.If Watson was kept in place of Keary then it would be years for him to learn to deliver .
We have a SOO fullback coming ...again experience.
Most of all You have Lammy Jr coming into the grade next year now tell me who is the better prospect Lammy Jr or Watson? . I wouldve liked to see Watson thrown on the wing short term and kill a few years if he stayed.
Cant keep em all. I would let him go -reluctantly. although he is starting to improve rapidly in 1st grade ..he is just still feeling his way into the side..
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe

Watson over Keary is just laughable.

Roosters NRL Debut- when players change clubs and play their first game for the new club they always say x is making his debut for that club.- First Appearance for that club- I think you gave your self up as the clueless one

I like Watson... really do. However, I don't think he's even better than Hastings. Basically what happened was that Hastings tickled the wrong people the wrong way so got sacked. Stuck in a corner, we gave Watson the brief that he could earn some 1st grade dinero if he shut up and did what he was told.

Watson did a good job of this but basically he's little more than a talented ball runner. Until he learns how to distribute the ball, do positional kicks, do attacking kicks and convert tries, he's a pretty ordinary 5/8. Maybe a good FB (albeit a short one... risky!) but he's no Tedesco.

$500k a year with the Tigers. I wish him all the best! If you love him, why would you block him from accepting such a good deal? Hoarding up and coming halves doesn't win premierships. Getting rid of them to sign established players might though!

You said Cornish was "yet to play NLR" not "yet to debut for the club"

Trent won't play him so set Connor free.

Thanks Buddy Franklin- be happy the Swans are back in the 8 I suggest - Gees I forgot he did debut for the Roosters as Gus was saying before the game vs Raiders that he (Cornish) was the best organiser of the three of them ( Keary/Watson/Cornish) and asked Joey Johns how he was to be used from the bench - Joey replied as dummy half backup- not even Moose knew this- a first one feels :-) - Cornish is off contract at end of 2017 too

I reckon they should release Lattrell Mitchell & bring Dally Messenger back.
