Soward is playing a very specific role (pretty much kicking only) in a Bennett structure that has optimised the potential of the current Saints roster. All power to him but don't take his capabilities out of context.

Soward has a better kicking game than Pearce but Pearce will prove to be by far the better player over his career, play more rep footy and contribute more to the teams he plays in. Just give it time.

There are NO coaches who can optimise a team like Bennett and Soward is reaping those rewards.

We have to get rid of jaubs, Mason and O'meley. Jones is out of his depth. the team's nucleus is starting to take shape. We also need a ball
      playing backrower.
      1. Mini
      2. Kenny-Dowell
      3. Maubs
      4. decent centre needed (I'd give Williamson a go here)
      5. Perret
      6. Carney
      7. Pearce
      13.Anasta
      12.decent backrower needed
      11. Shackleton
      10. Myles
9.decent hooker needed (Jake Friend is not the answer and neither is Tansey)
      8. Paea
      Inter
      14. F. P Nauesalla
      15. Symonds
      16. Ahern
      17. Towers.

I see Towers as a future star, not unlike Coote from Penrith. The more local juniors the better. Towers is part of a famous eastern suburbs sporting family (Cyril Towers).
i think we need a halfback coggy

I'd be prepared to give wonderboy a chance with a good team around him. He's not a bad player, just hugely overrated.

I think a lot of men around footy clubs underestimate the intelligence of some of the players.

It may be the player is more suited to a structure at another club, they get on better with the players or it could be as simple as they feel more at home.

As i said in another thread, would these players we let go make our current position any better??

And if we were in a better position than we are at the moment, would we really be questioning the release of these players?

Hindsight can sometimes be a wonderful thing, but very negative when dwelled upon.
The point I was making wasn't that we released the wrong players. It is that our signing policy is all wrong. Instead of replacing lost players with local juniors or reserve graders that we have been developing for years, we instead bring in a more expensive player over the top of them. The more expensive player comes, slacks off, but gets his $$$, while the young reserve grader impresses in limited opportunities, and then goes on to be a star at another club.
