Transitions is where it's at these days. Gus was talking about it last night in relation to the storm. They deadset attack no matter what play it is, no matter how or when they have got the ball. This is something we are horrendous at. We are the least 'rugby league' rugby league team in the top group. We are slow with penalty decisions, slow with defence to attack, slow (to get shape) from set plays.

We cause every team in the nrl endless amounts of trouble with our sweep variations and edge running. Problem is we don't get to it anywhere near enough.

And for every good kick Jake Friend does there are 45 crap ones.

3 of their 4 spine players are possibly the best players to ever play the game. Add Bellemy into the exaction who is the best in the business and they are on another level. Not just against the Chooks but against everyone.

I think what Gus was alluding to is that when there is a change of possession (dropped ball by opposition) the Storm players quickly get into position to attack when the oppositions defence is somewhat in disarray - I.E opposition players have moved in field to be part of some attacking play/move then have to get back out to their normal defensive positions with the change of possession which may take a tackle or two.

Players with less defensive prowess or agility could thus be exposed if not in their usual defensive positions as a result - Most other teams would have several hit ups to consoidate before moving the ball either side but by that stage the opposition has re-set their defence. Storm don't wait for that to happen.

This comes down to not only the coaches but the players on the field(player awareness and game management) and something no doubt the Storm practice and practice and practice to achieve perfection at - Yes they are the most structured team in the comp but they are able to know exactly what to do and when to do it the majority of the time in games. Also in defence they are the most resilient team in that area and able to defend for longer periods without the ball than most if not all teams - Sharks would be number 2 in that area- Most likely why it will be another Storm vs Sharks GF

Robbo's press conference mentioned basically the lack of resilience in defence by the Roosters in conceding tries - The mark of a premiership contender team is to be able to defend for long periods without the ball and defend your mistakes and then when you get the ball be able to do something with it which is how you win games and premierships.- Roosters are not able to defend for long periods and defend their mistakes nor have the attacking prowess to match either Storm or Sharks and maybe some others currently in the top 8 too - Brisbane/Cows come to mind and even Manly.

Manly defeating the Warriors- 26-22 means we drop to 4th

As much as the Storm play to structures they also ALWAYS play footy. It has more to do with Bellamy, and for usbthe opposite with Robinson, as to why we are so slow to play football with ball in hand.

          Good read!

Parafraph 2 and 3 highlight the transition point. We are terrible for exactly this point where we get the balll and it takes us exorbansnt amount of time to get anything in place, where eyes up football and not this over coached crap leads to our sets being wasted more often than not.
