  • Official View: Carney's pass went backwards

Referees co-coach Stuart Raper answers your questions from Round 20 of the NRL Telstra Premiership.

Did you think the pass from Todd Carney to Braith Anasta was forward in the Wests Tigers' clash with the Roosters?

I thought the pass was flat at worse and probably went backwards. It was a very flat pass and the touch judge thought it was forward. He was in the best position to make a call and he thought it had gone forward from the hands. It probably should have been ‘play-on’.

But I think it is very speculative to say that it cost the Roosters a try. There were plenty of defenders around and they all stopped when the whistle blew. It was 55 metres away from the tryline and everybody had stopped because of the whistle. I’m not saying he wouldn’t have scored, but it is very speculative to assume the call cost them a try.

If anyone could have farked it up, it'd be Braith

Braith would have scored. It was a disgraceful decision. If it was one of the so-called popular clubs it would be making bigger headlines than it is!

Check out the call that went against Inglis yesterday

Makes this decision look like a good one

I love the use of the word "plenty" when describing the number of defenders in the vicinity.

there were 2 defenders one being Moltzen to braiths Right and what i assume is the winger to braiths Left. The number 18 had dropped off before the whistle was blown and it was a 3 on 2 play.

It was 55 mtrs with a head full of steam and momentum along with a 3 on 2 over lap to faster players that did not have to turn and run.

AND IN ANY CASE, if we did not score and got tackled, we either would have had a quick play of the ball and momentum again against a retreating tigers defensive line within scoring proximity.

It's funny, benefit of the doubt goes to the attacking team usually, i guess it doesn't in this case.........

I don't give a *&^^% about south sydney - they got to win off a blatant 2 metre forward pass the week before and all anybody bar roosters supporters went on about was Sandow's freakish field goal. If Souffs lost that game they'd all be saying what a shocker Sandow had because guess what - apart from that field goal - he did.

TBH, when I first saw the pass I thought it was forward. On replay, I agree that it was a tough call on us.

Conspiracy theories aside, we have had a very rough run with the refs in anyones book.

We sure have and actually it wasn't so much the 'foward' pass that pissed me off on Saturday night but the lopsided penalty count and the different interpretations between us and the apparently almost perfect tigers.

The Inglis penalty was a justified one.

he put his hands under the defenders legs and threw him to the side, effectively removing the marker out of play.

                    100% correct decision.

                    Only souffs fans will disagree.

                      Utter nonsense

It was a disgraceful call - perhaps the worst of the year

Who cares about Souffs? So what, the score would have been smashed 48-20 instead of 48-16??? My heart bleeds for them after their 'deserved' win last week.
