Do we have Elliot to thank that we re-discovered the grubber? Admittedly tonight was the night to go to the air - Barba is the worst under the high ball I've seen since Tuigamala - but still, it is so valuable being able to force repeat sets.

I don't know who is coaching this mob. Either Smith has woken up and started doing something (we look like a team three weeks into a new season, who hasn't gelled but has potential), Elliot has come in and started actually thinking, or Taylor is running a double job on the twentys and the firsts.

Something has changed - there's a little (not much, but a little) more heart and competitiveness in this mob.
Right, becasue clearly the coach has to be the one to give the instruction. Maybe those 13 ****wits on the field should have collated their 2 braincells together and thought 'geez, having a few repeat sets would be nice' or 'hey, lets try for a change, how does that sound?'

Give me a break. I guarantee you Brian Smith isn't the one who has 'woken up' from some incapacitated stupor. Guess again.

      ...

Here is Pearce after an interview: "Yeah, uhhh, mate, you know, we just put in, and uhh, mate, I'm just uhh, you know, happy and that with the win, and uhh, yeah, looking forward to, uhh, you know, next week with the boys, mate."

      Look at Carney's pedigree.

Football players are paid to get bashed and hurt people, not to think. That is why there are coaches. That's why Bennett and Gibson etc. are so highly regarded. Footballers are dumb. They need direction from the coach, and this year, until recently, they've had none.

Smith has been mind boggling in selections, positional choices, and more. Finally it seems he's coming around. Pearce's intelligence and decision making don't somehow meteorically rise when he's in a City or NSW jersey - he's surrounded by a talented, well coached team.

We are nowhere near that at the moment, but we're heading in the right direction, because we're actually getting coached.

I'm not saying the players are blameless, or that they have put in 100% for all of this year. They haven't. But it hasn't helped having a coach who has been asleep since October 1 last year.

I thought Pearce went pretty well last night in attack and defence.
