SBW and Cooper loom as a double act for either code Jamie Pandaram
    July 27, 2011

Dream team ... Sonny Bill Williams, left, and Quade Cooper.
BY EXTENDING his tenure with New Zealand rugby by just one year, Sonny Bill Williams has left open the growing possibility of uniting with friend and Wallabies playmaker Quade Cooper in either code in 2013.

Williams yesterday confirmed he will remain in New Zealand for 2012, but has yet to decide between the Crusaders, Chiefs and Blues.

Williams and Cooper share the same manager, Khoder Nasser, and both players come off contract with their respective unions at the end of next year. It is probable that Nasser will market the pair as a dual-package signing, and NRL side Sydney Roosters would be the early favourites to secure the high-profile stars.

Advertisement: Story continues below Williams, who sensationally walked out on his contract with the Bulldogs in 2008 to join French rugby team Toulon, is barred from returning to the NRL until 2013 as part of his later negotiated release.

Cooper has often stated his desire to play in the NRL and eventually represent the Maroons in State of Origin.

Because the Tri Nations unions do not allow their players to join the Super Rugby teams of rival countries, it would be more likely the duo defect to league rather than one having to give up their national jersey.

The New Zealand Rugby Union confirmed last night they would not be altering the requirement of their contracted players to remain with a local Super Rugby side. Williams, 25, prefers to sign one-year deals and would not rule out remaining in New Zealand beyond 2012.

''At this stage it is just one more year but things could change,'' the four-Test All Black said. ''When I first came back it was just to try and make the World Cup squad then go back offshore.''

Williams will make a decision on whether to leave the Crusaders before the World Cup starts on September 9.

Williams will come off the bench against South Africa in Saturday's Tri Nations match in Wellington.

Correct me if I am wrong but have either ever come out and said they want to play together? Sure they are mates, but I think the connection is primarily through their manager. Do they really have this man love for each other the papers continue to go on about?

TBH I don't want either of them, both have some positives but a hell of a lot of negatives.

Personally I would prefer to develop our young guys, many of whom are very talented in their own right. In 2000-2004 we developed a lot of no names (young guys or players unwanted at other clubs) and turned them into world beaters.

Sure we might not win a comp for a couple of years, but I think we certainly have the players to challenge for it once they develop and mature. just need to cut a bit of the older deadwood and we'll be sweet.

                    Cooper for Mini?

                    No thanks.

Yawnion is a game for prefects, Rugby League is a game for the close to expulsion, smoking behind the bike shed, cherry popping, one step (and sometimes not) away from jail bastards.

Correct, Prince William loves his Yawnion, to much for clean skins and then the poor cauliflower eared kids stick to them like glue cause there the ones struggling for money.

I would like to have Quade Cooper at fullback for 2013.

Minichiello is a turnstile so there is nothing lost there in terms of defence. And we have a player with ball skills. We all know about Mini's ball skills.

SBW in the backrow. I mean, we have FPN that couldn't penetrate a paper bag at the moment.

SBW is a Group 1 horse. FPN would struggle to win a Class 1 at Kembla.

                            Fair dinkum

Will Nicky P ever farkin learn?

Buying guys like this, at the absolute top of the market, is farkin madness. How many overpriced, underperforming duds does the senile carnt need to buy to farkin learn this? Tie up a massive proportion of your cap on code hopping rock star farkin UNION PLAYERS?

The smart club administrators must look at us as laugh. They probably express some feigned interest just to bump up the price a bit and make us pay more, because they know Nicky P will. Then they laugh some more

You are killing the joint Nicky P

Please - for the good of the club you love, just **** off

Just because some newspaper hack says that we would be favourites to sign somebody doesn't mean it will actually happen. You're a fool if you believe we would have the cap space or money to sign both Cooper and SBW.
