Unfortunately in the current laws of the game, a defender needs to take this into account when preparing to tackle. Any contact with the ball carrier's head is deemed the fault of the defender, even if the attacker dips into it. You saw that with the Soliola tackle, which was made much worse because Slater slipped into it. If you're going to do a classic ball and all tackle you take a risk that it occasionally goes wrong, as it did for Tetavano.

Reality is, any contact with the head, intentional or unintentional, will generally result in an MRP charge.

Somebody earlier in this thread compared Zane's tackle with the one Simon Dwyer of the tigpies made on JWH in the 2010 (?) semi at Allianz - I can see how you'd compare the two but I think Dwyer hit JWH higher up in the head than Zane did (who caught the titans player on the jaw supposedly), and Dwyer's was more of a shoulder charge than a tackle. Either way, same result, defender in Disneyland, but no penalty (or citing) against Dwyer. Shows how the game has changed.

Yo I agree. I still see Tet's hit as clean. Dwyer clearly came in direct contact with the head you feels me. Tets is being punished for doing his job too well yo. Seriously, the world is going mad you know what Im sayin

yep. It's sad really as it can penalize a sensational play.

On Sol v Slater. It was ugly yes but I still don't think it warranted 5 weeks. I don't believe it was intentional, careless or whatever as, like you said, Slater slipped into it. Sols arms were even down low and in the very split second it took Slater to slip, he could not change his stance. If it was someone else, he may have only got 2 weeks but it was poster boy Billy Bob so handcuff the tackler and send him to the gallows.

Yep and they are trying to make the game appear more appealing by softening it up but in actual fact, people are turning away.

How long before someone takes a shot to the head intentionally to win a game? E.g- the game is in the balance, either tied or only 2 in it and an attacking player goes in low thus getting hit in the head and gets a penalty? Considering some of the muck that goes on these days, I wouldn't be surprised at all if it did happen.
