    Roosters v Broncos: Schick Preview

Schick Hydro Preview: Sydney Roosters v Brisbane Broncos
    Qualifying Final
    Allianz Stadium
    Friday, 7.55pm
After 26 courses of delicious entrees, the main course is on its way with the NRL Finals set to kick off with a mouth-watering clash between the Roosters and Broncos.
The winner of Friday's match will earn a much-needed week off while the loser will receive a second chance at home in Week Two of the finals.
Both teams head into the qualifying final with winning form after the Roosters survived a scare to scrape past the Titans while the Broncos did enough to see off fierce rivals the Cowboys in Townsville.
With both sides oozing representative talent, this shapes as the pick of the first-week match-ups with the victor set to firm into second favouritism for the title behind the Melbourne Storm.
Roosters coach Trent Robinson has the luxury of bringing in rep players Dylan Napa and Aidan Guerra who were both rested last week. Their inclusions see Ryan Matterson and Sio Siua Taukeiaho drop back to the bench in place of Victor Radley and Zane Tetevano.
There could be some further good news for Roosters fans with Daniel Tupou (groin) almost certain to return on the wing. Should he recover in time, Joseph Manu would be the man most likely to make way.
The news isn't so good for the Broncos who have been forced to reshuffle their spine with skipper Darius Boyd (hamstring) replaced at fullback by Kodi Nikorima whose place in the halves is set to be filled by veteran Benji Marshall.
Tevita Pangai Junior – who will also miss the match with a hamstring injury – has been replaced on the bench by Jai Arrow who is joined by David Mead on the interchange.

[2017] Telstra Premiership - Finals Week 1: Roosters vs Broncos
    FW1: Fri 8 Sep 2017, 7:55pm, Allianz Stadium

The history: Played 45; Roosters 18; Broncos 27. There's been little to separate the sides over the years with the ledger locked at five wins apiece since 2012. Brisbane were big winners when they met at Suncorp Stadium earlier in the year but the Roosters exacted revenge in the return fixture. This is their first finals meeting since 2015 when a Darius Boyd intercept try in the opening minute set the tone for a good-old fashioned ambush at the 'cauldron'.
What are the odds: Sportsbet punters have identified the Broncos as the value bet of the week. More than twice the money has come in for Brisbane in the head-to head-market, and they've been big firmers all week long. Broncos 1-12 is the most popular winning margin. Latest odds at sportsbet.com.au.
Match officials: Referee: Matt Cecchin. Assist referee: Alan Shortall. Sideline officials: Nick Beashel and Kasey Badger.
Televised: Channel Nine – Live coverage from 7:30pm. Fox League – Live coverage from 7pm.
NRL.com predicts: The Cowboys showed in 2015 that you don't have to win in the first week of the finals to take out the title, but you can bet your bottom dollar both teams will be desperate to earn a break after a gruelling regular season campaign. The Roosters found out the hard way in 2014 and 2015 what happens when you squander home ground advantage at this stage of the season, so expect them to stand firm behind their famed 'Bondi Wall' and defend their way to a narrow win. Roosters by 6.

Good Question Mickie. I'm going for roosters by 10. I'm tipping Keary and Latrell for huge games.

But geeze aside from all their quick small guys, we gotta watch Maguire and his offloads. He's a rare specimen - a bronco and a dog simultaneously.

Played them 5 times in finals matches including 2000 GF - Roosters 1 win (2002 prelim final)- Broncos - 4 wins (1998 prelim final/ 2000 GF/2008 1/4 Final/ 2015 Prelim Final) - We need to be at our best and Bronco's had 2 days further rest as well - The Bronco's despite some injuries and unknown team changes(starting side) they will field a side capable of winning this game. We wont score a lot of points so our set completions/defence/Kick and chase game/low error and penalties conceded will be paramount to put them in a position to win. A Game that could go down to the wire and even golden point.

Doubt if Nikorima will play FB - Mead is another option they have for Fullback along with Kahu - my inkling is that Kahu will be FB and Mead wing - Nikorima 1/2 and Marshall on the bench

Bronco's off loads are a danger along with quick play the balls and Broken field play- Milford/Roberts/Hunt/Nikorima for instance -defence needs to work hard in reducing number of offloads and be aware of broken play danger in attack-work in defence as a unit not individuals- cannot let Milford play his add lib footy for instance as he can create try scoring opportunities if the defence is not awake or staggered.

I'm tipping that if the Roosters bow out early in the Final again this year, Robbo will get the punt and Des Hasler will be the new Roosters coach.

Interesting, but 2018 will be the real test. We've bought Teddy and that's it. I still say we're short at least 1 big bopper, and a experienced specialist centre. Maybe Manu may get bigger and learn to defend - you never know.
