I am hearing that Cronk may play 5/8 and Pearce at half with Keary filling the utility role off the bench held this year by Watson(although Cronk's best position is half but he can play 5/8) - On a Parra fan site they are saying Napa maybe released to play for Parramatta as a result of a Cronk signing? -Even if they could sign Cronk the NRL would expect the Roosters to release a player or two as the other 15 teams and their supporters will be questioning how he could be fitted in under the cap

A few scenario's have been listed as possible ways the chooks could sign Cronk- Cronk a straight contract out of the salary cap budget/ Contract made up of salary cap and TPA payments/ Contract made up of Salary Cap and Coaching staff budget - (i.e Cronk signs on as a player and assistant coach (be hard for this to be passed by the NRL I suggest as other teams would want to do the same)

Do we need Cronk or should the Chooks be looking for another Front rower and centre of NRL standard though and or fast tracking players from the lower grades identified as NRL standard - I haven' seen the full NRL squad for 2018 to evaluate the depth in a number of positions

I know that Uncle Nick and the Board expected at least a Grand final appearance as a minimum and were not happy in losing another prelim final and considered it a failure for the club. Nick wants premierships not excuses or failures at the penultimate step - 3 prelim final defeats in 4 years- 2 when minor premiers and one as the second place team.

Everything you are 'hearing' is speculation, either from here, other fan forums or Twitter. Don't pretend to be an insider. None of the information you are regurgitating is coming from insiders either.

Rather than contributing to a 'Cronk fund', any cap money 'you are hearing' we have left over should be going to upgrades to Mitchell and Keary + sourcing another reliable meter eating prop. If Napa is booted, Robbo will want him replaced with another prop. You realise how skinny up front that would make our team? You can't just lose Napa/Guerra/Evans & replace them with Collins/Butcher/Vunackece in one foul swoop without an instant and possibly long term negative affect on our go forward ability.

    Nick wants premierships
So what? Everyone wants fking premierships. I am sick to death of that ol' bullshit line of 'the Roosters play for premierships' or 'Uncle Nick wants premierships', as if it's unique to us. News flash : EVERY club plays for premierships.

Looking forward to seeing that but I think he's a pretty safe bet of not needing to pay up.

This . Whether Cooper Cronk is a Rooster in 2018 or not there must be consequences for the finish of 2017.

Patience must be shown. A one season quick fix is not the answer. Nothing short of a premiership would be considered a success.
2 year deal or nothin imo

Haven't you heard, 34 is the new 33...Get with it.

Good to see that we go after the best and it's disappointing that some are happy with the same old disappointment from the usual suspects. Even the Cowboys have been in a GF 2 in 3 years... Whether we get him or not or for 1 or 2 years, at least we are after the best.

Cronk may be 34 but he's playing like a 29 year old.

Not conventional, but I believe Pearce call be a very good ball playing 13 if he is as open to the move.

He is of decent size, not afraid to hit the line and is one of the best support players in the game. Not to mention he is one of if not the best defensive half in the game.

If he was open to it, he definitely wouldn’t be a liability playing there.

The only thing I’m hoping this speculation results in is Cronk’s market value being pumped up, so that whoever signs him is screeeewed!

Yep, punt our captain for a 1 year wonder?

Maybe we can free up cash for a season if Teddy goes to England for a season while we borrow Jordan Tansey or Matt Bowen :P

Oh I know... we can have Todd Carney on seapsies for Friend. He can double as our captain.
If you can't see Teddy, Keary, Cronk and Pearce is a far better option than Teddy, Keary, Pearce and Friend then we will agree to disagree.
Friend stifled our attack plenty times and Pearce lacks that composure to set up plays in the 20m zone or getting repeat sets. An issue we have had for a long time.
After losing 3 of the last 4 prelims (only one had a valid excuse) change needs to happen in key positions. Teddy obviously one of those key positions. I can't cut it that we had a good season losing at a prelim. I could cop it in 2014 but not two more times.
As for Friend, I would have him at lock. He would still make 40-50 tackles that we need someone to make. With Pearce at hooker, not only would he improve our attacking options but I would imagine that he plays 80 minutes and gives us that extra bench rotation. We have lost Guerra so there is a spot to fill.

Personally I doubt we get Cronk but if he came I will be doing cartwheels. Not only will he improve our attack but who better to mould young Lam for a couple of years? Look how good mini-Cronk looks for the Storm.

And what do the roosters do in 2019 if Cronk was to come for a year, go back to Pearce and keary? Sound like BS.

Just regarding this whole Cronk thing. If I ruled the world, I would sign Cronk for a year, give him a coaching gig at the end of it and throw the Bondi Icebergs at Cleary Jr. We fed and clothed his father (he was a great defensive centre in his day) and would be able to offer the moon. And sixpence.

I think most are missing the big picture.

Whenever our forwards demolish their opposition, go forward with quick play the balls, Pearce and Keary have a field day. Like most halves.

With the addition of Teddy, all we need do is strengthen our front row. That's who let us down.

I've never gotten the Pearce hate. He is no superstar. He is conservative in his play. He is steady. Defensively sound. He is a good first grader and a good enough halfback to win a Premiership for us, as long as we have a consistently dominant pack.
He proved it 4 years ago.

No point destroying morale for a guy who could only be here for a year.

The way the game is played today, with the middle three forwards (props and lock) doing the grunt work up the middle, Pearce would get demolished. It is just not possible. Taumalolo plays lock. You gotta be a lot bigger than Pearce.
