How Sydney Roosters can afford to sign Cooper Cronk

HERE is the proof the Sydney Roosters can afford Cooper Cronk without rorting the salary cap.

The estimated salaries of their top tier players comes in at around $9.59 million with the cap next year expected to be $9.4 million.

In recent years the Roosters have suffered an exodus of stars, including James Maloney, Michael Jennings, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and before that Sonny Bill Williams.

Next year they won’t have Aidan Guerra, Kane Evans, Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Liam Knight, Paul Carter and Connor Watson on the payroll.

It’s why they can afford both James Tedesco and Cooper Cronk on $1 million deals. Cooper Cronk has been heavily linked to the Sydney Roosters.
Ever since news broke that Cronk’s likely destination was Bondi Junction, outraged fans at rival clubs have gone ballistic.

But, in their defence, they have only one player in the Kangaroos squad — skipper Boyd Cordner.

Premiers Melbourne Storm have seven from their 2017 squad wearing the green and gold at the World Cup.

A lot of the players at the Roosters are on less money than you would think.

Latrell Mitchell is one of the best young players in the competition but he signed long term before he proved his worth. Latrell Mitchell signed long term for the Roosters.
Blake Ferguson is on a reduced contract next year because of his off-field issues and the fact he is now regarded purely as a winger, not a fullback or centre.

The club was also $200,000 under the salary cap in 2017 which allowed them to “pre-pay” players some of their 2018 money to create more space in the cap.

There’s talk the Roosters will release halfback Jayden Nikorima if anyone has to go.

He’s played mostly for feeder club the Wyong Roos but is soaking up $350,000 of the salary cap. There is talk the Broncos want him back in Brisbane. THE COOPER CRONK EQUATION

He doesn’t. They are estimates. But while he is sticking up for us I don’t care.

I find it all so amusing “ outraged fans at rival clubs have gone ballistic”. The socio demographic hang ups towards the club and anything associated with the eastern suburbs always consistent. Sitting back and watching it unfold is the best offseason scenario since SBW.
I suspect that if management and Cronk only have to make the signing official.
The decision and financials were done months ago by Politis and Bouris and the dynamics of it was with consideration to the professional careers of Cronk (current and long term) and his partner. To soften the whole deal in a business sense it’s a nice little sweetener that Cronk’s dad has association/ links to the club via being a true local etc Bondi United, BUT $ talks and the long term strategy for the future.
Our club is more than just a footy club.

          SST 150k, really?

Arguably the 2nd best forward at the club...

Rooster_6, I thought the same thing regarding SST. He is a budget version of Jason Taumololo and should be in the starting side as one of the first players picked. If the $150,000 is even close we need to upgrade and extend him ASAP!!

              That's no longer arguable.

No way is SST on such a cheap deal. He's world class.

No player or the club they play for disclose what they are being payed.
Amounts players are being payed come from the media, forums, twitter, facebook etc.

Rothfield is being nice so his Sharks can be considered a home for Pearce should he move on.

He also did everything he could to get Carney sacked.

The first was Carney being random breath tested at 9am on Coogee Bay Rd. Had to be a tip off from somewhere.

The second was a News reporter mysteriously walking the streets around Taylor Square at 130am on a Tuesday morning when Carney etc were out drinking.

He finally got his man only for him to disgrace himself again.
