You don't realistically expect a 800K, 11 yr player, 17 time Origin player and premiership winner, to come off the bench. If Pearce has any pride, which I'm sure he does, he will move on.

He got to be the highly paid man in the greatest rugby league club that has ever existed.....He is one priviledged cat.
For over a decade!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For every fellow supporter who accuses me of suddenly taking a hard line stance on this, there's been two who have critisised me for thinking sport ain't a business.
Damned if ya do?
Either way, Pearce is a millionaire, set up for life, thanks to the Rooeys.
But, just like Wayne himself............part of me sees him as a very naughty boy.

Keary will be the sacrificial lamb for 2 reasons.
1. So Robbo minimises team harmony damage, or does not lose the dressing room as they say.
2. So Robbo keeps the fans/sponsors/stakeholders content
I reckon from the reaction on this forum, 50% want Pearce in & 50% want Pearce out. That's a lot of fans and memberships.
Yes, Keary will get the 'super sub" / utility role, and he will be at another club in 2019. Just like Connor this year. And don't be fooled cause he'll get about as much game time as Connor got.

If I was 2 years out from retirement, I’d just sit back, take the money and play reserve grade (less toll on the body + same $$$).
Why don’t people do this?

Salaries are private and we really dunno what people are on (nobody except club officials who are in the know + salary cap auditors...etc can find out). IMO for us to be under the cap, a number of key players need to be on significantly less $$$ than what has been reported.
We’re now in Melbourne Storm’s ‘big 3’ territory. Frankly, it’s impossible for Cronk, Tedesco, Pearce, Cords and Friend to all be on $1M a year. IMO there’s likely a heap of stars on relatively low salaries because they are like ‘well I’m pretty rich regardless of whether I earn $450k or $900k... I’m gonna take $450k because I want a premiership... also Nick Politis and Mark Bouris are from the big end of town so can offer me a $2M a year job after footy if I do this for them... that’s better than what Bellamy and the Tigers can physically offer’. Read between the lines, Cronk did a lot of talking about retirement options during his candid interview. My guess is that he woulda gone out with Politis and Bouris one night (with his wife) and informally been told that both of them are set for life career-wise after footy if he plays out 2 seasons, with significant bonuses if he can get Pearce to stay + win a premiership.
Bouris and Politis are both worth upwards of $500M each (publicly)... Cronk and his wife probably bag like $1.5M a year combined. Both are in careers that have life spans limited to being young and fit. My guess is that whatever the big boys of Bondi offered them, it’s pretty darn special.Last edited by ism22; 11-01-2017, 04:18 AM.
