One thing some of you failing to see is Cronk is not a champion halfback either. He has played his entire career in the best coached side in living memory, with the best ever hooker watching his back. If we get rid of Pearce and Cronk fails to deliver we will end up in a worse position than 2016.
Can't judge a player by one game, but Cronk was unsighted as halfback in the last WC game. Don't underestimate how much Smith does in his stead. And smith didn't play second half.

Cronk is a good player, but to think he will take our whole team to the next level is unproven at this stage.

I don't think he involves himself as a number 7 like Pearce does. Therefore I find it hard to compare them even though they wear the same Jersey.

Not wanting to deathride any incoming or outgoing players, just believe it when I see it.

He sure talks alot tho, but will that prevent any forward capitulation ala the cows prelim?

Might be exactly what Jake Friend needs, Cronk will be relying on him a lot, and could bring out the best we have seen of friend. Cronk could well improve a lot of our players, without having to change the way he himself plays.

Pearce was unsighted for many halves over the last 10 years. Don't underestimate what Carney and Maloney did... ..but hey lets give him another go....Right? We can judge what a player has done in the last decade.

Cronk is being severely underestimated by some of our fans.

He's not just some 'hanger on' thats ridden the coat tails of Cameron Smith.

The only time Qld have lost an Origin series recently was when they lost Cronk to injury. Without him even the likes of JT and Smith weren't nearly as effective. They missed Cronk's organisation.

No doubt Smith is the greatest hooker of all time and maybe the best player ever but it shouldn't detract from the fact that Cronk is a truly great player in his own right.

              you are right man.

Pearce usually goes missing when big games are on the line. He turns into the invisible man. Pearce is what cricket lovers call a 'Flat Track Bully'. He sure looks good against pedestrian opponents.

I can think of plenty of times when big games are on the line or in at a crucial time earlier in a big game, Cronk has come up with a crucial play.

Eg the cruise missile kick try in Origin this year or laying on the try which Slater scored in 2012 GF. Which was the winning margin in that gf.

We sure needed him to step up last week against Freddy's dudes.

People keep saying this but I'm wondering where were you this year when Pearce came up with numerous plays at crucial points across multiple games this year.

Is it the bias that just makes you forget or do you genuinely just not watch the games?

I don't see how anyone can disagree with the statement that "Pearce usually goes missing when big games are on the line".

A couple of field goals in regular season games - albeit one being the Anzac clash - surely aren't enough to erase a history of under performance in the big games.

Amazing!!! All the footy writers from Fairfax and News Corp go on about how good Cronk is and how Pearce has failed to take his chances etc YET the same old Pearce fan club keep the rage going. I liken they're behaviour like members of Scientology...very odd!

Lol R 6 dude, I did acknowledge Pearce has his good games usually against weak opposition. The 'Flat Track Bully' reference.

I qualified my post by stating big games, do you refute that one?

Ok one Anzac game but tbh, is beating the Dragons in a regular season game in 2017 that big a deal?

The other winning fg was against an understrength Storm probably no mean feat and to his credit man. His other fg was against the Warriors and we all know his contribution towards the end of that game.

You are the one trying to twist the argument, I say man.

So a little stat on Cronk playing without Smith.
For 27 games at club, state and international level. Cronk has only won 13 and lost 14 without Smith.

I like Pearce, especially his toughness and defense (excluding PF v Cows) on the field,,,,,,not a fan of him so much off the field. And the unnecessary sledging v QLD, and the famous 'chokers' sledge at Souffs did us no good at all in the 2014 PF.

Cronk may not be a flashy superstar, BUT, we definitely need his on & off field discipline, professionalism & leadership. And hopefully, he'll be a great calming influence for when; 1. We go out to a 20 nil lead, and/or 2. when we're in a close ending game against a top side. Not to mention, his brilliant short kicking game, and ability to build pressure against oppositions. His great 'clutch' play is also a bonus.

It would hurt to see Pearce go and see him doing great at another club, But I'd take Cronk over him at this point in time (yes even if Cronk is 34 in December). I also believe we cannot keep Pearce for many obvious reasons already stated.

And it goes without saying that we need the friggin money to keep players like Cords, Latrell, SST, and even Tets, AND to sign some bulldozing forwards and a seasoned quality centre (Said it many, many times, but this is a real concern and could be our undoing in 2018).

On a positive note (yes, you read correctly), I can't wait to see Cronk, Teddy, Keary, Latrell & Toups (shhh & Fergo) do their stuff next year. Gordon is one of my faves - I think he'll play centre / wing for his goal kicking. Yep, poses another question, what happens with Manu? Effd If I Know.
