I was another lucky spectator that day. One of the rarer times I was in the stands but well recall that fantastic try. From memory we beat them by 40 to nil or something similar. Our forwards ran riot and the backs finished it off. It was one of the most dominant performances I can recall from an Easts team in my memory and being against Manly made it so much sweeter.

While on great Roosters tries, Does anyone recall the day that Alan McKean stepped through the entire Wests defence for a 90 yard try virtually from hos own goal line. That has to be one of the best individual Roosters tries I have witnessed. Joe Lydon's against Cronulla was another. .

I got this of the net............

Paul Gallen reveals text message to Mitchell Pearce

      NRL PREMIERSHIP
      November 16, 2017 9:13pm

FOLLOWING Cooper Cronk’s signing with the Sydney Roosters, reports emerged at Cronulla players had been texting disgruntled halfback Mitchell Pearce in a bid to entice him to the Shire.

One of those players was Sharks skipper Paul Gallen, while Wade Graham is another who was mentioned.

Pearce is currently on a US holiday and is yet to decide whether or not he’ll remain at the Roosters in 2018 following Cronk’s arrival.

Pearce and Gallen have been mates for some time following their stints playing for the NSW Origin side.

Now the Sharks veteran has revealed what he said to Pearce in those messages.

“No, it had nothing to do with trying to lure him to the Sharks,” Gallen wrote in his Sporting News column.

“Mitch is a friend of mine through our days together in the NSW Origin side and I just basically sent him a message wishing him all the best after the Roosters signed Cooper Cronk.

“ ... Mitch is a bloke who needs his space. He doesn’t need me bending his ear and telling him what he should do.

“But if he decides he wants out of the Roosters, the Sharks will pick up the phone and express their interest.”

WTF is it with Gallen & Ennis, etc

They also took 'Crichton' out to wine & dine him. Wonderful guys to have as your recruitment & PR men..................NOT

Just posting this cause like many others in 2016,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I realised how much I hate Cronulla, and anything associated with them....................their effwitt fans especially.

If Cronk and Keary can create something like that magic moment its going to be a great 2018

I do remember McCabe being one of the first to go and I was very annoyed because he was such a good player. Boustead was my favourite at the time and when he moved to Manly I never forgave him! I don't remember Gurr playing for the vermin which is probably a good thing.
Its all a bit of a blur here too,Paul Mc Cabe went at the end of the 1981 season, he was such a damaging hard running 2nd rower then at the end of 1982 Fulton played pied piper and took Dave Brown, Kerry Boustead, Noel Cleal and Ian Schubert, I think that was all the players that went to Manly that year, we got Mike Eden from Manly. John Harvey left Easts at the end of 1982 also and went to the bush before returning to Manly for the 1984 season. Ian Barkley left Easts at the end of 1983 to go to Manly and poor old Marty Gurr who wanted to stay at Easts had a fallout with Laurie Freier at end of 1983 and went to South's in 84 before going to Manly in 1985

Ha..........true. But they were great days. Players had fulltime jobs and trained 3 times a week.

At the ground, they actually stopped the clock 5 mins before the end of the game, and we'd all wait for the final siren (or whistle).

When a game ended, we'd go find the days goal kicking sand mounds and try to kick goals. No kicking tees back then. Ball boys carried small buckets of sand.

And the best was running onto the field after the game, and targeting any rooster player, jersey covered in dirt and sweat, to back slap them. We'd all target Horrie of course. Refs were actually very safe, they were not an issue at all back then, and they got their share of back slaps also..

                Thems were the days.

Thanks Horrie. That fills in all the gaps. So I can at least still blame Fulton for taking Barkley, even if it was one year after the others! I guess he's off the hook for Harvey and Gurr though. Still, I can't stand the bloke or Manly.

Also, I do remember all the media uproar when Manly poached all those Wests players. I'm assuming there wasn't a similar uproar at the end of 82 when Fulton took all the Roosters players.

yes I was there too 1970, one of the best individual sidestepping tries I have ever seen. Easts won 32 -16, cardy, brass, morgan and porter all scored......I remember hearing aAan McKean say he developed his sidestep by running down the footpath and always practicing sidestepping people walking the other way !!

What a great memory you have. Gives a whole new meaning to lest we forget. McKean had a wonderful step and almost always beat the first defender. He was much more than a great goal and general play kicker. Left St George in their glory days as he couldn't get a first grade spot over Changa. I remember Mckean's sidestepping 'practice' which must have been frustrating for pedestrians. We did the same as kids on the way to a big game.

And Thirteen - don't worry about us oldies. A true Rooster is always young at heart and it just goes to show how loyal we've been to this mighty club.
