Ha..........true. But they were great days. Players had fulltime jobs and trained 3 times a week.
At the ground, they actually stopped the clock 5 mins before the end of the game, and we'd all wait for the final siren (or whistle).
When a game ended, we'd go find the days goal kicking sand mounds and try to kick goals. No kicking tees back then. Ball boys carried small buckets of sand.
And the best was running onto the field after the game, and targeting any rooster player, jersey covered in dirt and sweat, to back slap them. We'd all target Horrie of course. Refs were actually very safe, they were not an issue at all back then, and they got their share of back slaps also..
Thems were the days.[/QUOTE

Seemed more important at the time.

Hah yeah. Geeze when I was watching Us tear Manly to shreds it was one of my best memories as a kid. How they got their 2 points is beyond me - They must have been coached by a very forward thinker taking the 2 points early. OR, did they kick late to get off the duck ZERO.
Anyone remember Horrie certain to score and then smashing sideways into the goal post. I think against Cronulla. And back then there was no real protective padding on the posts. I think he busted his ribs.
Also, we shouldn't overlook the charge for the corner posts at game end. And on refs, I do remember Greg Hartley having to sprint off the field after he blew the whistle. I'm pretty sure he made sure that he was nice and close to the field exit at full-time. lol...he was a one funny camper, always getting in the way of ball runners and ending up on his arse. Rex Mossop loved commentating Hartley reffed games. Even though the goose was the most biased Manly loving TV and Radio personality there was and probably ever will be.Roosters For Ever

The Roosters have offered five-eighth Luke Keary a handsome three-year extension – and are confident of keeping him.
Pearce already causing friction at the Sharks
VIDEO Mitchell Pearce is still a Rooster and still on holidays in the USA, but he's already causing friction at Cronulla, with young recruit Valentine Holmes facing an uncertain future if Pearce is signed by the Sharks.
But 7th tackle understands the New Zealand Warriors have emerged as a threat for his signature, with the Kiwi club keen to partner Shaun Johnson with a more experienced playmaker after losing Kieran Foran to the Bulldogs.
Off-contract at the end of 2018, Keary is currently a free agent and can talk to rival clubs. After a stellar first-up season at Bondi, the Roosters are deep in negotiations to extend his stay until the end of 2021.
But uncertainty surrounding the arrival of Cooper Cronk for the next two seasons has given other clubs a sniff at both current Roosters halves, Keary and Mitchell Pearce.

Pearce’s unhappiness with the lack of warning or consultation about Cronk’s signature is well documented; as is the long line of suitors – Newcastle, Cronulla, Manly and Canberra - poised to pounce should he ask for a release.
But Keary’s situation is less clear. He has become close to Pearce over the past 12 months and would be disappointed to see the incumbent Blues No. 7 depart.
And should Pearce stay, he’d be left to fight to play alongside Cronk and face the real prospect of being pushed back to the bench.
If a release were granted, Pearce would leave immediately. 7th Tackle understands that’s not the case with Keary, with the Warriors looking at him for 2019 and beyond.

One way or another, the Aucklanders are keeping a close eye on the fall-out at the Roosters from Cronk’s signing.
New Zealand has already offered veteran Manly playmaker Blake Green a three-year deal – but only on the condition that he gets an early release from the Sea Eagles to join them in 2018.
Green is ready to up-and-leave, but Manly won’t let him go without a satisfactory replacement. They are in the hunt for Pearce but don’t have the same money as other clubs, although back rower Curtis Sironen is a close friend.

[QUOTE=Lydon;n717827]If Pearce is chosen ahead of Keary at 5/8th based on form last year our Club has truly lost the plot..
Why bother signing Cronk to partner him with another no.7 when you have a genuine no.6 who smashed it last year and finished top 2 performer in his position?!?
It will bite the Club on it’s backside!
[/QUOT
Did you watch Keary's second half of the year and finals though- picked up most of his points in the first half of the year and plateaued after that- had a poor finals series too like a number of others - He was second choice when Moses reneged - Moses far and away a better player than Keary - Moses will plays SOO/Australia- Keary won't- If Keary goes it wont be a major loss

fark Moses. Who gives a fark about Moses and him throwing a dummy to us. You guys are trying to rationalise keeping Pearce. I like Pearce but now we have Cronk so bad friggin luck. Keeping Keary is a no brainer though, Pearce and Cronk in the halves would be a nightmare.
What would Pearce add at 6 that Cronk could not do at 7. Pearce would be a ball distributer at most. Yep catch and pass and that’s it.
You guys are unbelievable. Did you watch our games last year. Whenever Keary has the ball there was a great chance of something good happeningd
