I remember opening night at SFS vs St.George.
We were constantly told that the new modern stadium would have all seats under cover and watching the footy sitting in the rain would be a thing of the past.
So it was poetic that it rained on the opening night ...and yep we all got wet ! The govt told us fibs ....what a shock !

Architect Philip Cox designed both the SFS and Olympic Stadium - I just hope the State commissions the new brigade of designers. The case with both are 2 of 3 knockdowns I know of designed by Cox with a life span of no more than a average of 25 yrs. Never have I liked the ex architect state works.

They said 90% under cover and it ended up the other way around.

Like fix the fire exits and maybe a roof....not a complete knock down and rebuild as its a waste of taxpayers money and someone will be on the take....

Nice stadium in Minnesota, something like this would be pretty special.

              Expandable to 83,000, retracting roof.

I wouldn't get too excited about the Allianz rebuild, word has it that it won't have a roof.

                    A total outrage

Only seriously misguided people would build a new stadium without a roof.

                      Cost $1.5 bn

                      Allianz budget is only $700m.

ANZ is gonna have a roof.

One would have to only have a small part of one's brain working to built a new Allianz stadium without a roof.

Politicians are useless, as a general rule.

Well what do you expect from the NSW State Government.

They are going to spend about $700m for a substandard stadium, but it will have a curtain lol.......

NSW is planning for the likelihood that its new $700 million Allianz stadium will be more than half-empty most of the time by designing it with an option for a cut-down seating plan.

Yes Milanja it’s brilliant. That’s what happens when you have brilliant minds from various design companies working as a team. Its overdue for Sydney to have a architectural masterpiece. I doubt it will happen at Allianz due to it being under the ultra conservative SCG Trust which I am a member of.

Some joyous news for members like yourself BP...

Mr Ayres said the upgrades would ensure NSW attracted major sporting events for generations to come.

"The SCG will host one NRL grand final in 2020 during the construction phase and we have organised sequencing so that all other grand finals will be played at Allianz (2021 and 2022) and ANZ (2023 to 2044)," he said in a statement.

Ms Berejiklian reportedly faced opposition within her own cabinet - including from Treasurer Dominic Perrottet - but on Friday insisted everyone was confident with the final decision.

"I'm not someone who doesn't deliberate on these decisions and we have done that in a very collegiate way," she said.

The $2.5 billion cost is significantly higher than the $1.6 billion vision put forward by premier Mike Baird in 2016 which would have seen both stadiums refurbished instead of rebuilt.

Ms Berejiklian said "it would have been impossible to host any event beyond December 2019" at Allianz without a complete rebuild.

SCG Trust chairman Tony Shepherd argued his organisation had run out of money after spending $300 million trying to keep the "old and inadequate" Allianz stadium functioning.

Despite their efforts, the businessman said, the stadium's safety reports had become "quite alarming" and if serious action wasn't taken by 2019 Allianz would've had to close.

Mr Shepherd denied the SCG Trust had mismanaged the stadium by letting it deteriorate arguing it was time to "face reality".

How good would it be to witness our own RWB win a GF (or two) at our home ground
