I doubt the new rebuild will have any less shelter than the current one, which does me fine. Footy is a winter sport, and I expect to get wet occasionally. And all the Chookie fans that I know think the same way - in fact most of us are more likely to turn up than some blokes if the weather's dodgy!
    All good.
I however believe you are among the diehard 5000.

No way I'm sitting in the rain at Allianz or anywhere else to watch the Roosters.
I think it's not too much to expect, in the 21st century, for fans to be seated in dry areas at matches...especially when a brand new stadium is being built.
4 poles and a tin roof would do me.

Sitting in the pouring rain for 4 or 5 hours from the start of the 20s...no thanks.

Luckily, in the 1930s, the powers that be back then built the Sydney Harbour Bridge more than fours lanes wide.

Imagine if they were building a new Allianz stadium today...gold-plated guarantee it would have a roof, and seat more than 45,000.
Right in the heart of the nation's "biggest and best" city.
Too bad there's not going to be a "best if not biggest" stadium at Moore Park.

        Simples!

The first link is talking about the Atlanta Falcons new (proposed) stadium - price tag $1B, roof cost ~$200M (US),
The second is the Minnesota Viking new stadium. This one cost $1.1B (US)

In the case of the Georgia build (southern US) they dont really need the roof and may not build it anyway. In Minnessota they have something Australia does not have to contend with during footy season - snow, and the fact that it is f'n cold as well.

On top of all that you have 50 US states gagging to get into one of the 32 NFL franchises, and the NFL turns over more than $7B per year. The NFL is just in an entirely financial realm compared to the NRL, it's not even close.

If you think NSW is going to invest that kind of money so that on most weeks 5,000-25,000 folks can jam into the eastern suburbs to watch club level sports - you are nuts.

Remember that Anzac Day when the storm came...rain and hail...and the game was ruined?
Now they're gonna build a brand new, cutting edge stadium...with no roof.
          LOL

          Is it April 1st?
Oh - and for the record, while the proposed stadium is fuggly, all the seating is as close as hell to the action. That in itself is a great result. I never enjoyed my foray's into the upper decks at the SFS, as rare as those were, I'd rather watch on the telly..

Aha, there is an extra level of seating, apparently...a top deck much the same as there is now.

The new stadium comes with a dual-mode for smaller club or larger championship events. Club mode will provide 30,000 seats with a revolutionary LED mesh screen covering the top deck. The screen will have the ability to show images supporting home teams, driving atmosphere and retaining noise inside the venue.

In championship mode the screen is lifted for marquee events such as Wallabies Test matches, the NRL’s Anzac Day Cup and the A-League’s Sydney Derby revealing the full 45,000-seat stadium.

Perhaps they could make the top deck seating, all full of holograms to create the illusion of a full stadium !

Ladies in their finery [or jeans and a T shirt] ain't gonna sit in the rain...some will, but if you want to increase crowds past 5000 in the middle of winter when it's cold and raining, put a roof on it.

Guess they could always sling some Bunnings tarps over it on wet days.
Ah okay putting a roof on will bring the attractive women to the game ay.
Maybe they could have different themes during the season like yellow dress round.
