  • Allianz stadium to be refurbished or knocked down

just saw from channel 9 on facebook that the cabinet will decide whether to knock down allianz or just upgrade it tomorrow morning and will be announced in next 48 hours.
if does get decided to be knocked down, it will be begin end of next year, but ANZ stadium will be getting upgraded end of 2019 so will have some overlap time.

just gauging what people's opinion are and what should/will happen to the chooks

They are saying knocked down & re-built.
WHAT A WASTE OF TIME & MONEY.
Allianz is plenty good enough & IMO the Government is out & out wasting the tax payers money.
Refurbish Leichhardt Oval, Penrith Stadium & Brookvale Oval, that would make much more sense.

I hope they knock down rather than refurb - we will miss a season there either way I suppose so would rather have a new stadium with all the bells and whistles than a refurb that won't change much really. Does anyone have any idea on the time taken to knock down v refurb?

Despicable waste of money.....and for what??? What benefit?

This is hallowed turf they are gonna destroy. All our modern history and memories.

I can still remember the spot Gary Bridge broke his leg in game 3 season 1988, first yr on that ground. And the great Dancing Dallas graced that hollowed turf...and well as other muppets like Fittler etc. The stadium is hardly old..

No respect of history in the age of the god moolah.

Not as much as a waste of money as that stupid bridge or the desicion to build the light rail! At least they will get some sort of return on a world class 60k capacity stadium. But I do agree it is a spend that is probably not needed but I still would opt for a rebuild rather than a refurb which will last about ten years then it will come up again.

Yeah that would be awesome and worth the cost I reckon and would improve the return as they would get more people to every wet weather game and would make it the stadium of choice in sydney if not Australia for big events.

                      Huh...Light rail has a purpose...transport in a congested city...

We already have a stadium if you didn't notice. And the size will be basically the same...45 thousand not 60 thousand.

Yeah I noticed - agree they should spend money on traffic conjestion - they should have spent more and extended the rail line from Bondi junction to The Bra in my opinion - you know the tunnels have already been dug believe it or not to the Bra when they extended the rail to Bondi Junction. The light rail has been a budget and traffic nightmare in construction and it ain't close to done yet and even when it is done it's capacity compared to the rail extension is minimal and it takes road lanes out so you win some loose some - not a great solution at all - short term ie 3 yrs absolute disaster - long term distant second to the rail option.

Agree if we build again another 45k capacity that is stupid. Sorry for agreeing with you too much you clearly want a fight.

Waste of money! It needs a little work - like fixing up the big leaks that make their way through the covered section when it rains heavily. Other than that, save the money. I'm still sceptical the grand plan to dig deeper at Homebush would work. I'd rather see a rebuild of that into a 60,000 seater with a cauldron-like view like at Suncorp. I don't waste the money going to that monstrosity as it is. Not a good seat in the place and has no atmosphere! I remember Minni when he was playing saying he would rather State of Origin be moved back to SFS so they could get the atmosphere back.

Their priorities are clearly out of whack. That steaming turd of a stadium out at Homebush is the one needing an urgent refurb/rebuild. As it stands they should be letting people in for free, it's an atrocious venue for any rectangular sport

The problems with Homebush are many but the biggest one will never be solved - it's in Homebush. Honestly it's just such a pain in the arse for too many people to get to and Home - who wants to take their kids to a major game out there and get home at after midnight. Sydney needs a larger stadium than 45k - more like Suncorp that's 10 mins from central - that's moorepark. Then we will have a stadium that's accessible easily to most and importantly as well to out of town visitors as well who stay in the east or the cbd. Then we have a stadium that attracts big events and the event will be enjoyed by all at the stadium.
