The club tried to keep Winterstein but couldn't due to salary cap restraints. Freddy even mentioned in the media his disappointment in losing Winterstein and he was groomed to play NRL this season. Winterstein was given a game with the full strength NRL side in the last trial against Parramatta last year and done very well marking Krisnan Inu. Was unfortunate to lose him but he was very highly rated by the club.

Also there is a rumour Brad Murray from our NYC might be off to the Storm. IMO he needs to be kept. He didn't light the world on fire in the NYC this year but he was returning from a knee re-co and that's very hard to do. He will shine next year IMO and hopefully he'll do that in the tri-colours. He was the reason we won the SG Ball last year IMO.

    • I remember Robinson getting easily outjumped by Wendell to concede a try.. if we could install springs in his shoes then he may go alright.

firstly, what i will say about winterstein is that he was always a very decent footballer as a junior - made a lot of junior rep sides and did well coming through the grades but had a real slump last year that may have led to among other things him being let go. I think a lot of his poor form has to do with the fact that the NYC side was going so poorly and also because he wasnt playing one position very consistantly (was even in the backrow for some games) and wasnt able to strike up combinations and got poor service. So in summary, always had natural ability just one of those players that are a dim a dozen - natural ability has you thinking first grade one week and reserve grade the next. He came good and unlucky for us well done broncos.

On Murray, I agree completley. Very talented half and I think him striking up a combo with miller next year will be key for us in the NYC. Miller is still elegible for sg ball but he has shown his pedigree so i think with a good offseason, put him straight in the TYC side along with maybe blair as well who falls into the same category along with leilua and cordner. I really hope he doesnt leave either. Has a lot of potential just needs to get fit and confident again and then watch him go

I'd prefer Jacob Miller, Boyd Cordner and Cheyse Blair to play SG Ball first and then make the move up into NYC after that season is finished. These kids have a lot of time to make the jump and I think it will give them confidence playing SG Ball first. They have a massive chance of winning the SG Ball next year with the 3 named and adding in also Asipeli Fine, Dane Atkinson, Jake Webb, Tom Dawney and new recruits Brandon Tago, Keanu Te Kiri, Jake Grace and Henare Wells.

We've also signed another two players to the NYC squad for next season, Olomanu Usini and John Leiataua, both from Parramatta and both play centre/backrow. Usini has always had big wraps on him coming through the juniors and he will be a great buy. Leiataua has been a couple of times in the past few years but he is also another great player. POS is doing a very good job and all grades are looking extremely strong.

Boyd Cordner and Cheyse Blair I think can handle the step up to NYC due to their size but Jacob Miller still needs at least another year in SG Ball. Jacob was still eligible for Harold Mathews last year. He didn't play the entire season but I know he played a few games as I went and saw him play in the centers out at Campletown.

I think they can all handle NYC but I find that starting the SG Ball eligible players in the NYC straight away can dent their confidence. They need to settle themselves early in the season and get into a rhythm before moving them up to NYC.

Jacob Miller will most likely be repeating school next year so I can't really see him playing NYC... I assume he'll still be in the SG ball side (I think he's still eligible)

The SG Ball side next year will be one of the best to come through in awhile.

                  1. Keanu Te Kiri
                  2. Paul Rokolati
                  3. Asipeli Fine
                  4. Cheyse Blair
                  5. Henare Wells
                  6. Tom Dawney
                  7. Jacob Miller (c)
                  8. Brandon Tago
                  9. Ethan Fullick
                  10. Adam Brent
                  11. Boyd Cordner
                  12. Jason Antonelli
                  13. Dane Atkinson

This team will be lightning IMO. Expect Blair, Miller, Cordner, Fine, Brent, Te Kiri and Atkinson to move up into the NYC squad after SG Ball is finished.

                    17. Stanley Waqa (2010) - might be released

Expect to see JWH replace Paea, Cherrington to replace Mason, and Linnett or Williamson to replace Anasta (M Aubusson > lock) by the end of 2010. SKD is on his last chance too.

I doubt Mason, Sa or Waqa will even be around before the season starts.

Club officials don't want him and along with Mason have suggested they look elsewhere to try and get a better deal. This is a fact......was mentioned by a departing player over a few beers with a workmate of mine.
I expect Anasta's manager to canvas Rugby opportunities overseas or locally perhaps i.e Waratahs where he can earn good $$$ in the twilight of his career. Much the same scenario as his schoolboy Rugby mate Craig Wing.
If both go then we have significant $$$ to invest in as well as 2 marquee offerings.
BTW, Matt King was very recently approached but his asking price was too much. I'm not that sure about him.......he has gone off the boil over the past couple of years.

                              • Brad Takarangi Confirmation for Mack

Trio of Roosters play part in famous win
                                Monday, 19 October 2009
The Cook Islands have sprung the international upset of the year by defeating Samoa 22-20 in Cairns to book their spot in the inaugural SP Brewery Pacific Cup.

The young Cook Islands side shocked their highly fancied opponents with two tries inside the first 10 minutes and survived repeat sets on their line in the dying seconds to secure a memorable victory.

Sydney Roosters 2010 recruit Brad Takarangi kicked three goals in the victory while current Toyota Cup players Sam Brunton and Anthony Gelling started.

The full time whistle was met with ecstatic celebrations with the Cook Islands performing a repeat rendition of their war cry in front of the vocal Barlow Park fans.

The win sees Cook Islands join Fiji, Tonga and Papua New Guinea in the tournament proper which kicks off at Lloyd Robson Oval in PNG on October 24.

Teams arrive in Port Moresby on Monday, October 19, in readiness for a two-week stay in which they will participate in various community activities.

The SP Brewery Pacific Cup final will be played on Sunday, November 1, to determine which Pacific nation will join Australia, New Zealand and England in the 2010 Four Nations tournament.
