Trio of Roosters play part in famous win
Monday, 19 October 2009
The Cook Islands have sprung the international upset of the year by defeating Samoa 22-20 in Cairns to book their spot in the inaugural SP Brewery Pacific Cup.
The young Cook Islands side shocked their highly fancied opponents with two tries inside the first 10 minutes and survived repeat sets on their line in the dying seconds to secure a memorable victory.
Sydney Roosters 2010 recruit Brad Takarangi kicked three goals in the victory while current Toyota Cup players Sam Brunton and Anthony Gelling started.
The full time whistle was met with ecstatic celebrations with the Cook Islands performing a repeat rendition of their war cry in front of the vocal Barlow Park fans.
The win sees Cook Islands join Fiji, Tonga and Papua New Guinea in the tournament proper which kicks off at Lloyd Robson Oval in PNG on October 24.
Teams arrive in Port Moresby on Monday, October 19, in readiness for a two-week stay in which they will participate in various community activities.
The SP Brewery Pacific Cup final will be played on Sunday, November 1, to determine which Pacific nation will join Australia, New Zealand and England in the 2010 Four Nations tournament.

I know we all know that these signings are true irrespective of their posting on the website and understand your position but baiteri's manager is a very good mate of mine and ex parra player who played under smith. He told me that we will definatley going to make the 8 and smith is on the case and signing very well. He confirmed baiteri so if you will take the word from his manager through me as confirmation then hopefully that helps but no bs, confirmed well and truly.

I appreciate the optimism in your post roz and so dearly hope that Brian Smith can help to put the Roosters back to where they belong.
From what I've heard, it sounds like Smith has begun repairing the club's battered reputation by having a no-nonsense approach to player attitudes.

I am pretty sure Todd Carney has been confirmed on the Roosters official website. Couldn't find it but found where they were given permission to negotiate so I'm not 100% sure but I know most of the players including Freddy have said he will be here next season. That was after Fitzys last game.

Not that I am a gambler or anything but if I put a bet for the Roosters to make the top 8 will you guarantee my money as it's now a definite that we will make the 8?

Funnily enough, I asked him the same thing billy
I believe you Roz - I just think that with the season we have had for anyone Smith included to think we will DEFINITELY make the semi's is very optimistic IMO
I wont be parting with any of my cash at this point

I know you believe me I was just prefacing the post for the cynics and sceptics - there are always one or two . yep completley agree they were the exact words of my mate that we would definatley make it but im still with you but they are reassuring things to hear which is why I thought I would share it. Optimism from the outside is generally a good sign especially from a well connected bloke. I think we have signed very well and have some brilliant youngsters coming through and continue to bolster that part of the side so the times ahead look good.
Stay strong my fellow roosters, we will soon be crowing again!

I'm with you roz. IMO we have the playing roster to make the 8. I'm very optimistic about our chances next year. I think we can make the top 4 potentially but realistically I'm thinking we'll finish maybe 7th or 8th. As you've mentioned, we boost a group of talented youngsters and it looks like a lot of the young guys will be around for the next few years.
