    Good points BG and Spanner.
I cannot imagine the $$ we initially outlay for the SAfricans is that much more than the expenses involved with Qld stars such as Jake Friend, Williamson,Cheyse Blair, Ethan Lowe & Keanu Te Kiri.
Just on this kid Te Kiri, i heard he kicked a goal from the sideline in the dying stages to snatch victory 26-24 in SG Ball on the weekend. This kid is special according to POS reports last year when he saw him go around at a carnival. Provided he finishes SG Ball injury free i suspect he will get a run in the U20's.

We were talking about Rugby recruits to our club TOK.
If you want to include every club,I could name 10 union players who excelled in league to every one you name that did not.

Michael Cook was a Wallaby centre who signed for the Roosters (and did nothing) in the early 90's.

Anyone can name Michael O'Connor, Ricky Stuart, Ray Price etc, but it's the ones who didn't succeed who you don't remember, and there are plenty of them

        Like Michael Cook

Rugby converts are always risky because of their relatively poor defence

Have a look at the toyota cup team each year, only a very small few are going to go any further. For every star there are a thousand who fail for a variety of reasons

The Rugby players POS is signing from Rugby are young talented athletes with huge potential. To say all of them are a huge risk is a big call. Some will adapt to the different code, some wont. The majority in the past have been backs and they have gone onto make it.POS is looking outside the square now for recruitment, which only time will tell if our latest 2 Rugby converts will make it.
As BG mentioned above, most of our league based juniors wont make it as well after all the time we put into them.Others will be bought by other clubs, but it is the risk clubs have to make to find the ones that will make it.

And for a bloke like JP Du Plessis this is the very reason why he should stick it out with league for several years and learn as much as he can about our defensive techniques. By the sounds of it he is already gifted in attack. When he eventually returns to the game he grew up playing his defence will be far more superior. Will be the complete package perhaps.

BTW, remember Craig Innes the ex-All Black who played in Manly's premiership winning 1996 side. He was an awesome player. Matthew Ridge wasn't that bad either hey! Manly's dabble with the right Rugby types paid off for them.

Acknowledge and give the plaudits to POS for his thinking outside the box.
Personally, i think it is a low risk gamble. Like have a couple of speculator shares in your portfolio, hey Roodsman! If they pay off, they pay off handsomely.
Does anyone know the benefits (if any) of recruiting from Yarpies as far as the cap goes, apart from the obvious talent pool?

TeKiri looked good close to the ruck but struggled to link with our edge attackers. Atkinson(first game back) and Fine had only got decent ball when Miller went to wide receiver on the LHS. It was a real waste of firepower, he went for himself a couple of times and threw sone very average passes. Hit Atkinson in the head with a spiral bullet when a simple pop pass would have been a certain score. Has a way to go yet, 6/10.

                          • FPN will be at the Roosters until 2012.

This was confirmed by the man himself after the townsville game last year.
