There was talk from the club that Bett Delaney was being chased, thats now over, he has signed a 3 year deal with leeds.

Phil Graham is still being sought after though.

Obviously runs in the family - big brother Setiamata is no different.

Hopefully Brian Smith can work his magic with both of these blokes so that have an opportunity to reach their potential.

Tafuga comes from a yawnion background so it may be another year before we see great improvement from him.

In the 3 20's games I seen, he hasn't stood out and seems too small.
If I'm thinking of the correct player

No you've got the right player.

Updated news on contracts with the NYC, Moeakiola has re-signed and Jack Littlejohn (Centre) and Samson Manu'a (Prop) from SG Ball are in our NYC squad for next season. We've have retained most of our NYC team from this year so they should hopefully click into gear next season, much like Manly in the NYC this year. They've had three years together now and they're leading the competition as they know each other's games inside out.

The club is really starting to go in the right direction. Our player retention throughout the club from NRL to NYC level has been first class. Exciting times ahead.

Just a note, a big problem is our frontrow stocks. Next year, Lopini Paea, Stanley Waqa, Martin Kennedy and Mose Masoe are all off contract, as well as Willie Mason. It is good to see the amount of young players retained long-term now, the list is up to:

Tom Symonds, Mitchell Aubusson, Ryan Williamson, Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Daniel Conn, FP Nuuausala are all here till 2011.

Ben Jones, Anthony Cherrington, Jake Friend, Sam Perrett, Jared Warea-Hargreaves, Boyd Cordner, JP Du Plessis, Nate Myles, Setaimata Sa, and Sisa Waqa (?) are all here until 2012.

...and of course, Pearce is here until 2013.

footy, do you know how long Joseph Leilua is signed up for? I am assuming Moeakiola, Littlejohn, Lowe, Blair and most of the other U20 players (other than the notables like Boyd Cordner, Ryan Williamson and JP Du Plessis) are signed until the end 0f 2010, but I hear big things about Leilua.

Hopefully we can re-sign Paea, Waqa, Kennedy and Masoe behind next year. These guys are all young as well and would be great additions to keep on for the next few years with the rest of the young blokes we've just signed or re-signed. Waqa had a wonderful game last weekend and looks to be in great shape.

With Blair and Moeakiola, they might be signed to the end of 2011 although I can not confirm it. The rest I'm pretty sure are signed to the end of 2010.

I have not got any confirmation on how long Leilua's contract goes for but I'm assuming until the end of 2011. That way it's a two year deal and will finish up when he is 20, which gives the club the next move if he is performing well to either sign him to the full-time squad in 2012, or if he is developing as well as they want him to, they can choose to simply not re-sign him at all. Although I'm pretty this kid will come good. He just cuts opposing players in half. He is in the SBW mould, has good footwork, is versatile (can play in the centres as well as the backrow), runs hard and has top class defence to go with his attack. A lot of similarities with Boyd Cordner. Also Dragons weren't to keen on letting him go, he signed the deal with the Roosters without telling the Dragons and they now refuse to release him fron his current deal which finishes at the end of this season. Bad luck because I would have loved him to play out the rest of this season in our NYC team.

There you go, does anyone know if Braith will stay or not, man i hope he does, cause i think it would look great if we had this:

                    6. Carney
                    7. Pearce
                    13. Anasta

BTW if not Carney who would kick next year for us, and NOT SKD!!!

Gosh I hope that is the case.

Mose Masoe being here till 2012 would be a HUGE bonus to our forward stocks. I wish the website had a list of contracted players!

Going over the season so far, I was able to derive that the U20's wingers are often used a lot like the first grade wingers - we seem to always select a smaller, faster finishing winger, to partner a taller, rangier winger who is ideal for high ball targets - when one is out injured, we seem to always be ready to use a like-for-like replacement. The problem is the lack of consistency and thus tryscoring ability...

Regarding the smaller winger, we tended to use Grant Nelson primarily on the flank, with Tufuga Sa only playing on the wing if Nelson is either at fullback, or not in the team. Only once (Round 11) did they both play on the wings. In Round 2, Towers was used on the wing while Nelson was at fullback, but if you watched the game, Towers switched to fullback halfway into the second half anyway. So I will count that game as Nelson being on the wing too.

On the other side of the field, we used Sandor Earl primarily as our taller, rangier winger, whilst the matches in which Earl was absent or at centre were occupied by Moeakiola (1 game), Blair (1 game), Ale (2 games) and Haines (3 games) - all taller wingers. Only in 1 game (Round 21) did both Earl and Haines play on the wing together.

So it can be seen that this year, the most common wing combination has been:

                          2. Grant Nelson - 11 games on the wing (with Tufuga Sa - 8 games, as backup)

                          5. Sandor Earl - 12 games on the wing (with Fine Moeakiola - 1 game, Cheyse Blair - 1 game, Cyprian Ale - 2 games and Andrew Haines - 3 games, as backup)

                          The problem?

A combined total of 12 tries scored on the wing. That is very poor, as there are a fair few outside backs in the competition who have scored this many tries on their own. Sa has scored a measly 1 try in 8 games, Haines has scored once in 3 games, Sandor Earl has only scored 4 tries in 12 games, and Nelson, our most successful, has scored 6 times in 11 games on the wing. The rest didn't score in their appearances on the wing. Quite an issue that is hopefully rectified next season...

Earl and Sa's tryscoring rates were below what would have been expected by the coach. Nelson done very well to score 6 tries especially in this team tries seem to be hard to come by. He may lack height but definitely has a lot of heart to make up for it. Blair I discount as a winger because he is a fullback and has played his majority of games in NYC this year at fullback. Haines I have been happy with in his limited appearances. Is very big and tall and seems to have a bit of speed. Moeakiola had a knee re-co and his one game was his first back, and mind you he was probably best on field along with Boyd Cordner. If he didn't get injured, he would have been called up into first grade instead of Earl. Ale has been solid in his two games and should have gotten more games under his belt. He is a good player.

But I think the bigger problem to all this lies with the halves. They do not take control of the game and they don't play to the gameplan. If we are to finish the season off on a high, this needs to be rectified.
