I don't think you can gauge the talent (or lack of) of any NYC player based on what they show when they play against our current side. We are wooden spoon contenders after all, and will make any average player look better than he is.
Better to watch those players when they play the top tier teams and make any decisions on talent based on that.
Our NYC side is giving way close to 50 odd points a week after all.
NCSupporting the RW&B, through good times and bad times.

I recall the commentators stating what I know for a fact, that our U20s team is full of individually outstanding players. Unfortunately, there are a few average ones, as well as them being poorly coached and having little to no cohesion and communication in attack or defense.
The NYC side we could have named this season would have been:
1. Luke Towers
2. Grant Nelson
3. Ryan Williamson - injured/suspended most of year
4. Ben Jones - played first grade
5. Sandor Earl
6. Tom Symonds - played first grade, until injury
7. Brad Murray
8. Martin Kennedy - injured most of year
9. Jake Friend - played first gade
10. Isaac Maliota
11. Mose Masoe - injured most of year
12. Dylan Sharp
13. Jerome Leolahi
14. Olireti Samuela
15. Boyd Strickland - injured most of year
16. Dane Cordner
17. Andrew Clayton
Players who are currently regulars like Mark Talanoa, Sam Brunton, Tom Pelo, Tufuga Sa, Anthony Gelling, Ben Murray, Matt Hands, Tim Condon, Valeni Tia Tia, and younger talents Boyd Cordner, Cheyse Blair, Ethan Lowe and Jacob Miller, probably couldn't even make the team if we had all our players fit and firing in first grade AND NYC.
Jones and Friend only played as much first grade as they have with the injuries to Riley Brown, James Aubusson AND Braith Anasta. I can imagine that if all three of those players had remained fit, Jones and Friend would probably have spent more time in the U20's to refine their shortcomings.
Brad Murray, the halfback who the NYC team really banked their hopes on this season, really struggled this year behind a weakened pack, and because of his inconsistency, we probably rushed Tim Condon and Matt Hands into roles they were not yet ready to undertake, and the last resort of throwing Towers to halfback was an unexpected but short-lived masterstroke.
Realistically, B Cordner, Blair, Lowe and Miller are still SG Ball age, but with the amount of injuries to key players like Mose Masoe, Martin Kennedy and Ryan Williamson, these kids were rushed in probably faster than they were needed to.

With no injuries to first grade or NYC they would no doubt have made the semis. Not sure if they would win though.

Definitely with a full strength NYC side this season (including all the eligible players), the team would have been:
1. Luke Towers
2. Fine Moeakiola
3. Ryan Williamson
4. Mark Talanoa
5. Sandor Earl
6. Ben Jones
7. Mitchell Pearce
8. Isaac Maliota
9. Jake Friend
10. Martin Kennedy
11. Mose Masoe
12. Dylan Sharp
13. Tom Symonds (c)
14. Tom Pelo
15. Olireti Samuelu
16. Jerome Leolahi
17. Andrew Clayton
Now, what a team would that be, would definitely make the finals and I'd say would make the GF but whether they'd win it is a different story altogether. Other sides without their full-strength sides are struggling as well big time and are quite in the same boat as we are eg. Penrith. There's a lot of great young talent at all clubs and if all the NYC teams were full strength, the competition would be even more entertaining than what it is at the moment. I think because a lot of the best kids are forced into the NRL earlier than expected due to injury etc. it's a flow-on effect in the NYC with a lot of SG Ball players being forced up as well, which probably explains why there's less tackling and more attacking football.Last edited by footy; 08-30-2009, 11:26 PM.

I hope that the club rates Moeakiola, he looks a talent.

Have you seen Moeakiola play Mack? What are your thoughts on him. And also about Leilua? I've seen him play, he is a star-in-the-making.

My mate was at the Knights/Roosters match when Moeakiola played, showed me some footage on his phone, said that we had "this beast winger who kept going all arvo, top player mate". Turns out it was Moeakiola.
I was thinking exactly the same thing about Moeakiola after that game. I went down to Melbourne for the game last night and he was very impressive, made a few good runs and was very strong defensively. I really like the look of him. He is one of our brightest prospects and O'Sullivan has mentioned he has massive wraps on him so fingers crossed he can deliver. On a side note, Sandor Earl was very, very impressive last night and I think his experience in the NRL a few weeks ago has made him a better player. I didn't really rate him before but he has really come along since his debut. I say we keep him next year. He is very good in the air and that's something we lack. Our NYC team just gave it to the Storm all game and should have won. It's a big turn around when you consider Manly walloped them 56-10 two weeks ago and Melbourne stomped Manly 31-0 last week. Martin Kennedy was very good up front as well.Last edited by footy; 09-01-2009, 12:47 AM.
