He won't make it in Rugby, too small for an outside back and no kicking game. If you ever happen to watch a Rugby game involving the All Blacks, you will notice all their outside backs are around 110kgs and have kicking games. To be a fullback, it is critical. He doesn't have one.
SBW well you cannot compare him to RTS either as a ball running second fly half/inside centre SBW is up there with Ma'á Nonu and Smokin Joe Stanley....

I believe that (as a hypothetical) were you to take any of the top league players (think the great qld sides with Smith, Slater, Thurston, Boyd, Hodges, etc) and the equivalent AB’s, and we’re somehow able to retroactively send them back to a sort of proto-athlete form (using a mad scientist’s flux capacitor), you’d be looking at very similar types. And with our far larger population I suspect we’d produce more of these high-quality, hypothetical “proto-athletes” also.
In summary, fck the AB’s and fck rugby.
RTS if he stayed in Rugby was a good chance to make the ABs as his kicking game would have developed to be a classy fullback in Rugby contending for an AB jersey. However, ABs usually for outside backs place a high emphasis on one of two attributes Roger hasn't got. Blinding pace, you got to have that to be an outside back in an AB team, most outside AB backs tend to run the 40m in less than 4.8 secs, Roger would be lucky to crack 5, if you dont have that then you want to well over 6 foot and 105kgs...
Roger may break those two stereo types but those years spent playing league will place him now at a disadvantage imo....Originally posted by Bondi Boy

Damian Mckenzie is the current fullback and he's listed as 75kgs.
Israel Dagg listed has very similar physical specs to RTS.
Undoubtedly there's some huge boys in that squad but that seems to be more representative of the type of player NZ develops rather than the pre-requisites required to be a good Union player.
I just see so many below average ex-league players make international squads in Union I just can't imagine that RTS would be anything less than a star in Union. I just noticed Luampe is in the All Blacks squad, he was a woeful winger in his NRL days for the Warriors.
If players like Curtis Rona & Luampe are internationals in that sport then I think it's pretty fair to say that RTS would at the least match those heights.

4.8 seconds first 40 usually translates to about 10.70-10.80s for the 100m provided the athlete doesn't die in the ass like Jennings lol who probably was well under 4.8s at his best.Last edited by 4 the all in brawl; 01-18-2018, 11:41 PM.Originally posted by Bondi Boy

Look 4.95 secs is bloody quick which I reckon Roger would run at his absolute quickest. I'm not saying Roger isn't very quick but most of the outside all black backs are maybe 0.15 secs quicker. 5 secs is quick. 4.8 is blindingly quick. Johnson wouldn't crack 4.8 secs tbh. Only about 5 regular NRL players would.

Would he make ruggers?

When did he run 4.8 secs this year, last year or when he was with Cronulla?
Quite often clubs over inflate their players 40m times. The Dogs claimed Mason ran it in 4.8 secs too.....Originally posted by Bondi Boy

l'm no expert but like jism I did some athletics when I was younger. Not anywhere near jism's level tho'.....
But 4.8 secs runners electronically timed not hand timed don't grow on trees....
But gotta hand it to you R6 your are a rugby expert and athletics expert.
I grew up watching and playing rugby and doing athletics but fell in love with league but still watch a lot of rugby and have an interest in the speed side of footy...I am not saying Roger wont make it but I will be surprised if he waltzes into the starting ABs team. He will probably make the squad due to his high profile and he has a lot of natural ability but not so sure he will be a regular starter due to things I mentioned before.
As I have said before 4.8 secs usually translates into a 10.70 or thereabouts runner and no way Fergo is that quick. His 4.8 was probably hand timed.

Maurice Green was probably the quickest 40m runner on those stats by only .01s. Bolt was by far the stongest finisher courtesy of his superior height and stride.
Hope it comes out a decent size, if so you can do the maths...
