There was truly a bloke for Wests who played with one stiff arm each week. His name was Mick Alchin.

Richard Kimble may be able to help you out if it was anyone else.
    Merry Christmas Louis.
Your Armstrong comment made me laugh as we well know John Armstrong came from West’s to play with us. 72 gf team member.
Mad Mick Alchin was a West’s winger who played a season or 2 in Arties early days at Easts.

Unfortunately "hands for feet" is a trait shared by too many of our players.
      Lol.

The last 2 years have probably taken 10 years off my life span.

The masochist in me still misses SKD.

Thanks Bondi Paul. Hope you have an enjoyable time over the festive season too.

Yes John Armstrong was the first of our disallowed tries in the 1972 Grand Final that could have been 'so' different.
And Mick was one of many stiff arm experts from the Magpies in those days who joined us. Noel Kelly and Peter Dimond were no slouches in that department either. And that was all before Roy Masters came along to help them out tactically.

Thanks Louis - yes different rules and no pc in those days. The coat hanger - stiff arm was vicious. Our own John Harvey in the 80s a fine exponent.

              • At least he will have an excuse to drop the ball. Will still have better handling than Fergo.

                • I'm wondering when the Chooks will actually confirm this bloke's signing. Everyone's assuming he's at the Chooks in 2019 but until I see official word from our club, it's not a done deal yet.

Well... our club has said it’s us. IMO we’re probably waiting for 2 things:
                    1. A skills/fitness test once his finger is ready.
                    2. The question of whether he starts in 2018 or 2019.

IMO he’s basically handed Souffs his middle finger on a plate and said he’s leaving them as one big F U. It’ll take a while to recover/adapt and Souffs will have to decide whether they wanna pay the guy to play 1/2 a season or whether they’re happy to release him so they can spend fheir money on a long-term option.

If we offered them Butcher as a swapsies, I reckon it’d be a done deal. However, I’m guessing we wanna avoid that + get Crichton to start in 2018. We just need to find Souffs a Willis Meehan or something.

Skills-wise it will be interesting. He essentially played without it last season you’ve gotta remember (i.e. it didn’t work, was fused on to make it look pretty and this made it break easily because it got bent back all the time). IMO while it sounds illogical, he’ll probably be better off without it, so will just have to adapt to it and move on. I’ve met a lot of people in office environments who use those stumps like normal fingers without any problem. His hands are probably pretty darn huge (so he can palm a ball with the other hand for sure), you don’t to crocodile catches with your fingers unless you are 2 years old and it’s not a thumb or index finger. He’ll be fine...

Why is he only playing half the season? The whole idea of his finger amputation was so he would be fit for the start of the season.

                        • What actually happened to his middle finger in the first place?
Having half your middle finger amputated would be a last resort I think.

                          • Screwed up the tendons in it multiple times until it was rendered unusable. Bascially couldnt even bend it to clench his fist so always stuck out like he was giving ppl the bird.

Completely logical if people would bother to think about it, he never used that finger in a first grade game, it was nothing but an injury risk
