Like the Wyong game the second stage of the first grade game drifted into everything that is bad about an open trial with a 25 player squad swapping in an out of the game.

Isaac Liu was the Captain for this game, by the way.

Thought Ryan Matterson, Zane Tetevano, Reece Robinson, were consistently the best when they were on. There was good moments for others. Penrith were able to maintain their momentum throughout the course of the whole game.

The game showed up their lack of depth and lack of skills a major problem of Robbo's in developing players - I am really thinking my prediction of finishing 7th after the 26 rounds may be a touch too high - Most on here say Tedesco and Cronk will make the difference but with such skinny (very skinny) depth any injuries will be hard to replace or fill.

Robbo inherited a squad already developed in 2013 and has done little in developing players to NRL level during his tenure - any player that has progressed from lower grades have been developed by lower grade coaches and they have purchased already developed players as well.

Robbo hasn't addressed flaws that have been exposed in players progressing internally to NRL or established in NRL either - i.e Manu and Latrell have defence/concentration and involvement issues which should have been addressed early but hasn't been for instance and established players who make the same errors week in week out - Toops/Fergo/JWH/NAPA/Friend/Pearce/ etc etc.

If no premiership in 2018 we should be chasing Ivan Cleary as coach for 2019- Cleary is a coach renowned for developing players.

Yeah I think he’s reading too much into a trial. IMO you don’t really play trials to win them... it’s nice if you do but it is hardly something to worry about if you lost (especially when it is 18-30 with most of your team out).

We had what... Cords, Friend, Cronk, Teddy, Keary, Toops, Latrell, JWH, Maubs...etc out during a trial game (where you cycle through your players and 1st graders dont get a lot of gametime).

IMO you’re not really trying to win a trial... you are trying things out.

PS - Watson, Latrell, Matterson, Taukeiaho, Manu, Vunakece, Butcher, Collins, [Radley]...etc have all come from lower grades despite our wealth of talent in our 1st grade squad. Half our problem with many of them is that our 1sts are too good! I don’t think it is fair to say that nobody is rising through the ranks under Robbo. If anything, Brisbane are still crying that they had Darius and Mccullough out during the finals last year (despite the fact they were replaced by Benji Marshall and Jordan Kahu while we carried a winger on the bench, had a forward suspended for no good reason and had back rowers in our centres). We beat the Broncos’ depth and they are a single city club with no cap...

Robbo has said he was pretty happy with our attack but disappointed with the defence.

We were slow to move particularly in setting our defence at the ruck.

Said he still doesn't know if Cronk and Tedesco will have a run next week. You would think they would even if just a short hit-out.

thanks for the link, with the quality of that footage, no idea why they didn't live stream the game, it was the only one all weekend that wasn't televised or streamed.

saw the best and worst of Manu in those highlights, still think Robbo needs to persist with him, his attacking upside is enticing.
