  • Blast from the past - Freddy's first game with us verses Tigers in 1996

A really enjoyable clip, seeing players like Walker cutting loose, Ivan Cleary, Sing etc making a number of their breaks and of course Freddy Fittler carving up and throwing his trademark passes.

Was really the beginning of the modern era of success for the Roosters.

I think the music is a bit dodgy lol.....

If Walker had his head screwed on properly he would have become an immortal.

Sydney City v Sydney.. ha, what a joke Easts v Balmain.

How bout the depth and width we played with inside our own half? It's easy to forget the skill level that forwards from past eras had. Now it's a just a power game.

Great clip - thanks for posting. I liked the Jason Lowrie footage and seeing Pete Clarke who somebody mentioned in the one season thread.Ivan Cleary was class and a terrific goal kicker.

I love watching these old clips on YouTube, and I thank whoever posts them for us all to enjoy.
I just don't get why they want to jazz them up into music clips ...just the commentary without the music would be great

I remember going to the first round game between the clubs with their new names at Parra Stadium in 1995.

We led 18-2 with 20 to go but got run down.

Yep, and in the end it cost us a semi final spot. Came back to haunt us big time.

Cheers Tracksuit and yes The Skeez, the footy was really good to watch back then.

No wrestle and the power game still had not appeared. I doubt the game will ever go back to how it was played in the 90s though, it has evolved, even if there are rule changes, the modern athlete is much more powerful and everyone is under microscope.

Andrew Walker was a sight to behold, Matt Sing such a powerful runner, Freddy was just the complete footballer, Jason Lowrie showed some skill, Cleary was a class act.

Phil Clarke (UK international) features just before the end of the clip catching the short kickoff and distributing the ball, it is such a shame he had a career ending injury during 1996, he was a fantastic player.

The most naturally gifted easts player I have seen in my 50 plus yrs on this planet, who got nowhere near his playing potential. Shame really. Could of been something really special...

                        One of my favourite players.

Still can't believe we got away with trading Jeff Orford for WalKer!
