  • Keary still experiencing concussion symptoms

LUKE Keary is confident of taking the field for the Roosters’ season opener despite experiencing symptoms of concussion resulting from a broken jaw.

Keary had a metal jaw inserted into his face after a collision at pre-season training with a return date of their Round One clash with Wests Tigers on March 10 the goal.

Since the incident, the five-eighth has spent limited time on the training paddock.

Yet to take part in any contact work, Keary has been experiencing headaches and underwent scans on Monday to ensure the plate on his jaw had set in place. “There’s been a little bit, but it’s nothing too concerning, I’ve been alright,” Keary told NRL.com.

“I’ve done a little bit of training but not too much, no. It’s a slow thing and I’m aiming to get back into it over the next couple of weeks.

“… The recovery is probably a bit slower than what we thought but it’s nothing too serious.”

If the club really care about Keary they would rest him for rd 1. They can beat the Tigers without him.

We must win against the Tigers...who can be very good at beating complacent visitors.

I would be resting Keary for sure.

James Hooper just gave a further update on NRL 360, apparently Keary was suffering severe headaches over the weekend, he had to visit a specialist today to investigate what is going on.

given its now over 3 weeks since he suffered the concussion/broken jaw it pretty concerning he is still suffering concussion symptoms.

I always thought it took 6-8 weeks or longer for a broken jaw to heal.

          If only Pearce had stayed.

A headache not necessarily related to the concussion. More likely related to the healing jaw.

Agreed. Don’t play him with a frigging broken jaw!!! Use Mitch Cornish (we beat Manly with him) and just accept that we,’ll be without Keary for a couple of months.

Once the metal plate is out, he,s good to go. No use risking him early on (like Souffs woulda) when we have 26 rounds of footy plus finals.

Agreed. It, probably more like... the plate is too tight because the bone is healing, so they loosened it or some shyte.

To tell you the truth I think he is a very good player. To me he is as good as say Chad Townsend or Kody Nikorima or Aiden Seizer or Matt Frawley if given the right opportunity.

yeah i quite like him as well, but also thinking would be a good experience for a o'sullivan or a lam to play 1 game at start of season next to cronk and just run off him

listening to Friend speak at the NRL launch today, it sounds like Keary is going to struggle to be right for round 1, still hasn't commenced full contact training yet.

He had better improve his defence, Manly kept running through him last weekend.

Perhaps give him an extra week.

I heard he was seeing some Drs or specialists about his persistent headaches.

If it is just one week maybe start Radley at 5/8 with Cornish on the bench. I heard Cornish got mauled a bit in defence by Manly.
