I've always regretted losing Maloney but looking at his record, he seems to play hardball with clubs and if he doesn't get his ways he then walks. I don't know what happened behind close doors but I'm thinking Politis & co told him to get lost after demanding too much. Had he stayed would we have gotten another premiership? It's hard to say yes because we didn't win in 2014 or 2015 with him when we still had good players. I think Maloney enjoys the nomadic lifestyle...however I don't think he'll conjur a premiership with Penrith. I think he's done his dash.

Good riddance to Pearce. Connor Watson is a big loss and Paul Carter is a real talent. When RTS signed with the Warriors I was furious but we now have an ever better player at FB so things work out. You can't keep them all.

The one the Chooks will miss the most is that savior they had that played 1 good game & some on here were wanking themselves over for months. What was his name again?

This is why I can't understand the berries getting him.
They were cap in hand (pardon the pun) at the time, begging the nrl to help them keep players.

Anyrate, my judgement can be hit and miss on some of these NYC players,(I thought Jarven White would make it). You never know how dedicated they are or if a work ethic comes naturally to them or not.
But on field, Anderson seemed to tick every box.

I don't think Maloney held a gun to our heads, he wanted to stay.
The stumbling block was his desire for a 3 year contract rather than the two on offer. Kinda ironic that he only stayed in the shire for two anyway.

But don't forget that uncle came out and admitted he made a mistake on that call. Not something he'd often do.
Too much faith in Hastings and Nikorima.
But , like ending up with Teddy after RTS , we landed on our feet with the way Keary worked out.

Maloney was ripped off by Cronulla considering other halves were getting paid way more especially after Ben Hunt signed with the Drag queens.

He asked for a upgrade and was told he wasn't getting one.

When he was with us was happy to take 500-600k a year which was quite a bit less than Pearce. The club baulked when he wanted 3 but not 2 years. The Club at the time held high hopes for Slow-paced Hastings....

Don't know if that is putting a gun to the head of clubs?

No question for me it's Connor Watson. It's a loss that will probably come back to haunt us., too

If a player signs a contract for x amount over x amount of years he cant then ask for an up grade because some other player signs with another club for more than what he is getting.
Its like the Cowboys signing Taumalolo for a million a year for 10 years starting in 2016 & then in 2020 he finds out Jake Trobojevic is getting 1.3 mil a year at Manly & wants more money. It doesnt work like that.
What a player signs for is what he gets.

In in the long run, letting Maloney go was a blunder.
Does Maloney ever get signed for more than one contract at a club?

Going back a bit, but when Simon Bonetti quit the game to go back to the farm after winning a premiership in 2002, it started an unfortunate chain of events that led Brett Finch to the club breaking the successful partnership of Fittler/Wing in the halves.

I think this is a good point. Many have complained about how we should have kept him longer, me included. But now looking back in hindsight with his multiple club switches, it may just be that he demanded too much. He doesn’t seem to worry at all about moving on from one club to the next if he doesn’t get exactly what he wants.

I'm with the brawler on this one.

There have been instances of players getting upgrades, even mid contract.Maloney tried it with the Sharks, they didn't want a bar of it.

I have a feeling Taumalolo will be getting a bit more than a million come 2022.

The 2016 season was one of the weakest competitions in years. If we fired we could have had a real shot at the premiership that year.

Instead we tossed out Maloney, put all our faith in Pearce and Hastings..... and then Pearce promptly ****ed a dog and Hastings promptly showed himself to be a dud and our season was over inside the first 7 rounds.

Maloney's level headed attitude was also sorely missing in our finals campaign in 2017.

I would say our premiership window has now closed for a few years as our forward pack is looking tired and will have a heavy turn over for the next 2-3 seasons, although Politis is trying to throw a Cronk-shaped rock through it (similar to what we did in 2010 with Carney, albeit with Cronk being a much less of a gamble than Toddy)
