  • Gallop speaks on Todd Carney

    http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/spo...-1226112725335

Deregistered after his sacking from Canberra in mid-2008, Carney was forced to sit out the following season before the NRL cleared his return with the Roosters last year.

Should the Roosters also axe him, the precedent won't necessarily stand because his latest offence does not transgress the NRL's code of conduct.

NRL boss David Gallop last night said he would seek assurances that Carney could manage his life, but did not require a promise to abstain from alcohol.

"We'd need to be convinced that he won't embarrass the game again and the way to do that is to stop making promises he can't keep," Gallop said.

"The NRL has never stopped anyone from having a drink.

"What we've said is they can't misbehave."

    >>>>> >>>>> >>>>>

    So what's the problem?

    He didn't misbehave.
He didn't transgress the NRL's code of conduct.

Nor did he in the two weeks before the latest two week club alcohol ban, when he was drinking with Pearce.

Carney is managing his life...all he did was have a few drinks!
...and make promises he can't keep because alcohol numbs his brain and makes all his demons disappear...or maybe he just drinks alcohol for the same reasons as everyone else in society does.

Other players in the NRL who have breached the NRL's code of conduct are likely drinking alcohol now, so why can't Carney if he wants to?

"The NRL has never stopped anyone from having a drink.

"What we've said is they can't misbehave.

It's a good stance from the NRL and one our club should adopt. I'm talking about in the future before anyone tries to grill me about how Carney let down his team mates and broke promises. For once I agree with Gallop

So why are we sacking Carney then?

His promises were ones that he made...and now look like they were not even necessary.

...and the club's 2 week alcohol ban wasn't necessary either.

So one of our best players is going to be sacked, [and not deregistered by the NRL]...all over a confusion about the NRL's drinking alcohol policy.
...and be free to go to another club, have a few drinks when he likes, and win them games.

      Baaah!

So he's not going to be deregistered so he can go to another club if we sack him.

I don't care if Carney's a degenerate drunk with daddy issues, he's paid to play for this club at least until the end of next year. So he should play for us and no-one else.

Exactly, and put it in a trust fun for past players so that they can draw on it in "hard times". Now that's backloading!

In the past 12 months he's been convicted for DUI and suspended for drinking while injured, but the 25-year-old's latest transgression has left his Roosters teammates more devastated than ever before.

                  >>>>> >>>>> >>>>>

They should get a life, and play with the team that's announced...and stop having 'devastated' episodes.
All this 'bonding' drivel is tripe.
The Sharks were doing 'bonding' in that motel room.

Myles was calling for Carney to be sacked last time, now this time he was with him...not that they did anything wrong except finish their day at 2am, with a free day the next day...sleep in, or for most of the day.

Footy is their job, that rest day was their 'weekend'.

The rules are way too harsh!

                  * On Monday morning they attended a recovery swim at the team's Moore Park gym, before hosting a charity barbecue with homeless people from Mission Australia at the adjacent offices.

With the afternoon free and a designated day off to follow, the trio drove up the F3 to have tattoos completed in Newcastle. Carney had recently taken his business to the Hunter out of frustration over the media being tipped off every time he went to the Roosters' regular haunt, Bondi Ink.

Michael tipped off media outlets upon delivering them to the Courthouse Hotel in Taylor Square shortly afterwards. He waited until lunchtime yesterday to inform Roosters CEO Steve Noyce, before detailing the $13.20 trip on Sydney radio station 2GB last night.

He claimed all three were drunk, and labelled Carney's speech as "slurred" and his behaviour "agitated". He also said Nu'uausala passed out in the back seat, while all three used EFTPOS to pay half the fare because they only had $6 in cash between them.

All of which are hardly newsworthy or punishable offences.

Except that Carney, Myle and Nu'uausala had gone back on their words to their teammates.

"Everyone I've spoken to is gutted," a Roosters insider said. "I can't imagine what it's going to be like at the club. Technically they've not done anything wrong because we had a day off the next day, but the players made a promise to one another. Everyone was on board."

                  >>>>> >>>>> >>>>>

They paid the fare, it does not matter how.
Pay with a credit card and you have to pay 10% extra!

Maybe they mumbled the promise that should never have been.
Maybe they meant the promise when they made it, but that was a week before, maybe they thought the ban was stupid and just went along with it at the time, too afraid to raise a voice in opposition.

                  Promises, promises.

Gutted?..wait til something major hits the place!

                  The ban was Anasta's idea.

Who's running our club again...Rothfield, Crawley and co?

So the playing group remain split right through to the end of next season

"The playing group" seems to have more than a few tantrum-throwing spoilt brats in it.

They should get some friends outside footy...arrive, train and play, and not worry about the personal lives of their team mates.

If a player is dropped, leaves voluntarily, goes AWOL, is injured or whatever, they should just train and play alongside the replacement and stop complaining.
That's what they're getting paid to do, be 'professional'.

Well, when half of the club doesn't seem to want to be here and the other half wants to be something they can't be then I don't see why having Todd here would make any difference.

Go to the Titans stop using the roosters as his second choice. Bring on Quade!

Quade can play League to NRL standard?

SBW, the NRL seems to hate him with a passion...more trouble for us.
