our gameplan under robbo so far this year has been with no offloads or second phase footy. Just structured footy, very structured at that. You would imagine our team with no offloads would be completing at 80-85 percent per game with the safety first footy we play.. yet we are the worst in the comp for completion of sets. Now this isnt a fix to all our worries with our team.. ( marker d, dummy half spark etc ) but would our team benefit with our forwards being instructed to offload more often and create some ad lid play for guys like teddy, keary and latrell?? Would it spice our attack up and not make us so predictable?

You can’t have offloads if the ball carrying players go straight to the ground especially the forwards. It’s what they did all last week. Not one tried to stay up to offload. Could Trent be giving this lame tactic? Or is it that our forwards are past it and can’t muster the strength to stay up. They did try in the end but by then our team was tired and was throwing the ball away. I don’t get it why no offloads.

Bring on the bench winger, 2018 style.
No hookers, just four halves alternating between supply and distribution, all working in a 20 metre radius...it’ll be interesting to see

Of course it’s in our game plan that most players are instructed not to offload. Structured players, like Keary and especially Cronk, thrive on simple, straight forward structured play that relies on the forward pack laying a platform. We’ve had that in 3 of our 6 games so far.
JWH can offload, Liu can offload, so can Butcher. They’re told not too.
If you think it’s because these professional athletes “don’t have the ability” then Christ almighty you are dumber than I thought.

All players can pass the ball & thats what an offload is so there is no problem with players being able to pass/offload.
Its definitely Robbos match plan to play one out safety first structured footy.
Its the lack of concentration & not doing the 1 per centers that is the problem, having the worst completion rate validates that. There is no flow in their attack its always clunky because of continual mistakes which is all to do with lack of concentration. If the team plays aggressively & dominates the opposition forwards dominating the ruck getting that roll on with hitting the line hard receiving a flat crisp pass from dummy half then landing on your stomach getting up for a quick play the ball with a good kick to complete the set can be very effective but it only works if everyone is concentrating for every second of the game making very very few mistakes.

We've never been a high offloading team under Robinson, whether you agree or disagree we've always looked for quick play the balls and power running. Our variation to that has been short passing between forwards before the line, this is what we're not seeing enough of consistently. Our forwards are running one out far too often.

The catch with signing Cronk and Teddy is that they cannot bash through players like signing a heap of Burgess-esque players.
What I can say is that if we got ahead against Souffs, they woulda looked like a desperate, boring, rabble with very little flare to offer. Unfortunately they got a quick try off what shoulda been a penalty for a strip on Fergo, then scored another one off a high-risk bomb to GI that worked out (then ran the clock down by giving away penalties when we looked like scoring - NFI why the ref didnt let us play on and/or reset the tackle count rather than taking us back with limited time on the clock). We will suffer more frustrating losses like this until our attack improves (we are reqlly struggling to score tries off the back of penaties, as also shown in the Warriors game). Getting desperate and increasing our offloads...etc isnt the solution to this, it is just a stoopid alternative to having a proper plan that wont work at the business end of the season.Last edited by ism22; 04-15-2018, 12:07 PM.

TBH it is more a desperation tactic when you know you dont have a real plan to beat the opposition, so you just play a game that centres around using lotsa muscle and lotsa high risk plays.

Maybe Robinson is giving other teams a false sense of security and will spring out new plans where we beat them all to win in 2018....Yeah right!
