  • Jake Friend a Gallen style lock???

    Anyone else think this?
I think he could be a great lock in the same mould as Paul Gallen, then we can get a quicker dummy half.
Could do the team wonders with Friends defence he can take more runs and could be a good ball player.

While he does alot of tackles, I see him struggle with them 1 on 1. Sure he holds on but he doesn't stop them in their tracks like Gallen.

Gallen made 290M last week, 9 tackle breaks, 2 line breaks and 3 offloads. He is in his own class as a lock. I just can't see Friend or any other lock match it with Gal.

I prefer Friend at hooker and maybe others can take up some of the tackles he makes each game so he can have a bit of energy for his attack. I think the kid sleeps very well at night.

Jake friend at hooker is the least of our worries.

Friend is nothing like Gallen, is not a lock, and will never be a lock

Mitchell will move ahead of Friend in 2012

Except Gallen doesn't even play lock anymore...

On the topic though, Friend isn't a strong enough ball runner. As he matures we'll start to see the best of him, it's a position that requires time to master and he's got all the skills.

lol Mitchell will be lucky to stay in the 17 next year. Dumbrell will eventually force his way onto the bench.

Mitchell has done little to suggest he will move past Friend.

If you ignore his superior pace and creativity and the fact that his service is so much quicker and as such gives the outside guys that crucial extra time and space, then yes

Sure if you don't watch the games and only read stats and team lineups. Hell even when you read the stats it should be obvious to figure out he's not playing lock.

There is no way he is more creative or has quicker service.

You need to watch more closely.

I actually like the Friend/Mitchell combo - one of the few plusses at our club this year.

Mitchell brings energy and enthusiasm when he comes on and a lot of the time Friend is still out there and just packs into lock/second row.

And both can tackle, unlike some of our other mob.

Our hooking combo is the least of our worries.

That statement proves you're a poor judge, or just being argumentative for the sake of it

His quicker service was obvious immediately

Like in the final minutes of the Rabbitohs game when we were going for the field goal?
