Too injury prone for my likeing, 500 a year! only the Panthers would pay that sort of money for a 1 hit wonder!

No thanks. Again the most pressing priority is a replacement for Mini and a worker or two for our pack.

if carney is sacked there are 2 players i would pick up: rankin and jennings.

i actually think jennings' attitude/off-field problems are minor - the way i see it is that he is extremely unhappy with penrith and the changes there etc and wants out. this year aside, he has had a pretty clean record. all he is guilty of is hitting the turps a little too hard in the last couple of weeks as a sign of his discontent. with a new club and fresh start, i dont see him being a problem and although he hasnt quite managed with carney, i still think brian smith is one of the better coaches in the nrl at getting something out of players who need a second chance/have struggled.

have jennings start the year in the centres before being pushed to fullback by the likes of moga and blair. have rankin push for a spot at fullback before moving into the halves post anasta.
                        next year:
                        1. Minichiello/Rankin
                        2. Tagive/Minichiello
                        3. Jennings
                        4. SKD
                        5. Perrett
                        6. Anasta (c)
                        7. Pearce

                        2013:
                        1. Jennings
                        2. Tagive
                        3. Moga/Blair
                        4. SKD
                        5. Perrett
                        6. Rankin
                        7. Pearce (c)

mini, anasta and ryles all need one more year for stability and leadership; i would probably give FPN a second chance on second thoughts subject to his attitude/degree of remorse but i see him as a bench player next year. Whilst im at it, my pack would look something like this:
                        8. JWH
                        9. Friend
                        10. Kennedy
                        11. Guerra
                        12. Aubusson
                        13.

                        14. Mitchell/Symonds
                        15. Ryles
                        16. FPN/Tasi/Masoe
                        17. Leilua

there are some young guys we could try at lock like bosden and even FPN who i probably envisage playing in that role but at the same time, picking up someone like bird who happens to still be off contract could be genius and with carney and myles leaving (hypothetically), money could not be an issue. basically, im on the fence with the carney charade. whether he stays or goes is something im not too sure about but something like i have suggested above proves that there would be life after todd if we make a few good decisions. in any case, i still think we need another prop regardless of what todd does. mcguire continues to impress me.....

I didn't read all your post because I think it is all moot but think this through a bit. He has been supposed to have turned up a number of times to training after being on the drink this season. After all we have been through with Carney and Myles, don't you think it may be an idea to steer clear of signing players with a) attitude issues and b) alcohol problems?
                          ...

yes i do. my point is that im not so sure his 'problem' is as bad as people seem to perceive. to me it seems like a function of unrest, unsettledness and unhappiness with his form and club. contrast that to our mob who imo have inherent psychological problems that cause them to not only drink excessively but also get themselves into trouble. put it this way, jennings this year aside has had a pretty clean track record and even this year, the only thing he is guilty of is hitting the drinks a little too hard. contrast that to young jake friend whose off-field antics were worse in comparison to those of jennings but who with a bit of guidance managed to turn it around. this is however simply my perception much like your suggestion that he is an alcoholic. the best people to judge that would be our club so like my suggestion to sign bird; of course if the club deems these players to be in the same category as a myles and carney (if thats possible) or potential trouble (watts), then i dont want us to go near them but for some reason i think that jennings can be back on the straight and narrow pretty quickly.
