UPDATED INFO Mon 15th August - Please read and help if you can!!!
All right Fellow Roosters – we need your help!!!
This is about one of our own and we need send out a plea to all Rooster fans in what has been a pretty tough season. You may have seen it advertised on the site or in previous posts but this is the latest info and everything you need to know to help make a difference for our great mate Glenn Sargood AKA Billy Gunn.
About Glenn (Billy Gunn)
Glenn has been a season ticket holder for many years and is so keen he has a Roosters’ logo tattoo on his arm.
Together with his wife Rachel and their children Tom, Emily and Alana, they make the long trek from Yerrinbool in the Southern Highlands for every home game.
But Glenn is looking at a future when his children will have to travel to Roosters games without him.
He has been diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND), where the nerve cells controlling the muscles that allow us to move around, speak, swallow and breathe fail to work normally. With no nerves to activate them, the muscles gradually weaken and waste.
On average every day in Australia, at least one person dies from MND and another is diagnosed.
The average life expectancy from diagnosis is two to three years from diagnosis. With this in mind, Glenn is already planning for his 40th birthday party, because he recognises it is a milestone he is unlikely to reach.
In a bid to help Glenn create happy memories for his children during the time he has left with them, and to create a better awareness of the effects of this terrible disease, a Raise Up a Rooster benefit night will be held at Easts Leagues Club on Thursday 25 August.
A raffle will be held on the night in order to help raise funds with a Ford Fiesta being the major prize.
Fellow Rooster supporters, so you know, the Sydney Roosters so far have been incredible in their support for this cause. Things they have already arranged for Glenn that will stay in his family’s memory are as follows:
· In the sheds after full time for that epic final last year with the West tigers. In fact that was the week that Glenn was diagnosed and it capped off a very emotional week for him – as you know we won that game!
· Against Penrith this year Glenn had the chance to sit on the sideline near the Roosters’ Bench – we won that game too!
· Against the Bulldogs his son Tommy ran the team out and did an amazing job – we won that game too!
The three things we need your help with are as follows:
1. Thursday 25th August at Easts Leagues we are holding the Raise Up A Rooster Benefit night. As mentioned above it’s Glenn’s pre 40th. There will be great live auction prizes and a heap of silent Auction items as well.
MC will be Tim Webster, Ray Hadley as the auctioneer and Artie Beetson and John Peard will also say a few words.
Entertainment on the night will be provided by Jellybean Jam (see link)
http://www.jellybeanjam.com.au/?page_id=735
It will be a wonderful night and tickets are selling fast.
Tickets are $250 each or table of ten for $2000 ( get a table and bring some friends!)
Casual dress and a 6.30pm start
2. A Raffle for a new Ford Fiesta which will be drawn on the night. You don’t have to be there on the night though to win so you can buy tickets by calling Roosters’ reception on (02) 8063 3800 or by following the certain link.
http://www.sydneygameday.com.au//sec...php?cat_id=720
Tickets are $10 a ticket, 3 for $20 and a book of 50 for $250.
