Maybe Anasta will get plastered after his wedding and the telegraph can try and drive him out as well

To do that would be cannibalism on their part.

He is not the best 5/8 in the comp but he is far from the worst. He will give all he has and forget the Funch comparisons he is 5x the player he ever was.

Unlike many that have made their minds up about he, he is a decent honorable man and thats the sort of person we need to influence the younger players at the club.
KB, how come since he has been captain we have seen no evidence of his influence? I don't doubt he is an honorable person but the best way to set an example is to do it on the park.. When they know their captain is picking up the biggest pay cheque but not wanting to get his hands dirty on the field and more interested in getting his face on tv it can cause resentment.

Actually we've scored more points this season with the Pearce/Anasta combo than the Pearce/Carney combo. Which just shows how ineffectual Carney has been this season.

Some of you blokes just don't see how important Anasta is to our club, not just on the field but off it. It's he and Smith that have had the role of galvanising this team and they finally have them playing for each other now that the rats have been weeded out. That's quite an achievement in my books. They have looked a far more committed bunch since Carney and Myles are no longer in the side.

And I have a positive outlook for 2012 so long as we don't buy any more boofheads that could cause disharmony in the team again.

Why are people trying to justify the Anasta/Pearce combo with what Carney/Pearce did this year? They have shown SFA in attack the last few weeks against weak opposition and we will struggle next year against any decent opposition.

                      • Buddy, I'm not trying to justify anything, just pointing out the facts. The Carney/Pearce combo this year has been more ordinary than the Pearce/Anasta combo.

People need to stop dwelling on the past of 2010 and focus on the present and the future. And that future probably does not include Todd Carney.

Personally, I'd be sussing out if we could get Daniel Mortimer from Parra ultra cheap for a year and so how he does with Pearce. Parra would be paying the bulk of his contract so it's not as if it'd be an expensive experiment. Pearce would do all the organising so Mortimer could just play his own game. And god knows he can't be any worse defensively than Carney has been this season.

But if the Club decides to go forward with an Pearce/Anasta combo, then I'm fine with that as well. I just don't want the BS that comes with Carney have our 2012 season disrupted like 2011.

Which is true but it doesn't mean the Pearce/Anasta is a successful one either.. We made the grand final with Pearce/Carney last year, we still struggled to beat the likes of Cronulla and Parramatta with Pearce and Anasta this season. I am not saying stick with Carney but if people cannot see that the combination of Pearce and Anasta will take us any further from being shit this year to extremely mediocre next season then they have their eyes painted on.

no no no no no.. The problem with Mortimer again is he would not compliment Pearce.. Mortimer is slow and lethargic and tackles like Carney... Pearce needs to have a dynamic playmaking partner so his tenacity and defense and yes much improved passing game ( (I am trying my best to find the positives) can be combined with someone with speed, guile, flair and elusiveness.. the traits Peace lacks alongside composure..

                            • That's fine nc. I have accepted that Carney won't be here next year. But I want to be competitive next year. We have the forwards to match any team. Our backline is a bit thin but there are players coming through that could give us good attacking option. Our halves is now our major problem and Anasta/Pearce will not give us those playmaking options that we had last year. The difference between Anasta at 5/8 and a very good 5/8 will be the difference between us making the top 4 and missing out on the 8 altogether imo. If he has to play I prefer Anasta at secondrow. I wouldn't go anywhere near Mortimer. I would prefer giving Littlejohn a go. Actually I would throw Carney's money at Tomkins but that is a long shot.

                              • Well I can't see why we can't play both Anasta and Carney...instead of shooting ourself in the foot over some stupid drinking ban that never should've been in the first place.
Carney will be fully fit by the start of 2012.

Play Pearce in the centres...he ran down the left side like a centre in Origin.
Play Carney in the centres in attack.
Think outside the square!...anything to score points.

We're nearly last on the ladder...blame Carney for it all you like...but that's not the truth.

                                Play props on the wing.
                                Play second rowers fullback.
Play Mini 5/8, props running off him, onto Carney at pace and wingers on the end of the line.

                                Do something different!
