Paying out his contract will be a great investment towards the clubs future.

This is a really good thread.
Even though the topic has been done to death.
For mine, he has lost the trust of the other players so he has to go. It would be almost impossible for him to get it back and keeping him would send a terrible message to the younger ones. It would lead to another season just like this one.
As far as where he goes - it is not relevant to our decision at all. If we decide that he should not be in our club then that is the end of it.
If it turns out that he was involved in what was clearly a set-up then he will not get registered at another club anyway.

All those dribbling on about Anasta wanting a drinking ban so that TC could be caught out and he could get his 5/8 spot back are deluded.
All the bloke wanted was for his team mates to be in the best physical condition to finish the year on a positive note with a few wins.
And any member of the team who did not want to be involved in the drinking ban had the opportunity to man up, be honest with their team mates and put their hand up and say "no thanks, not interested - count me out". It appears none of them did. Is that Braith's fault? No, it's the fault of the blokes who told their team mates one thing and did another.

If they don't want him here, they should give his contract money until the end of next year and he moves on with his life.
Next year was when he was going to earn most of his money?
After all, they knew his past when they signed him and took the punt.
There's plenty of money, just pay him out.
He could go to court and tell the judge it wasn't his fault, that 'the leadership group' took him out drinking knowing he likes company.
He could claim bullying and harassment as he'd been isolated in his workplace by colleagues and was bullied into agreeing with an alcohol ban when he didn't want it, knowing what would happen if he disagreed with it.
Wonder how long the court case would go for?
12 months?
I can see the headlines now:
"Carney and the Roosters go head to head in court battle over contract money and sacking".
Live tv crosses to the scene: "We're expecting the arrival of Todd Carney at the court any minute now, there's a large media contingent present hoping for an interview and photos for the afternoon edition."

BB, get off whatever it is you're smoking/injecting.
You don't think there would be plenty of clauses in TC's playing contract so that the club is covered from a legal angle from any court action by Todd due to his drinking escapades. He would have breached most if not all of his behaviour clauses by now.
And as to the notion we should sacrifice $400K odd off next year's salary cap for no return so this bloke can wander off and piss it up the wall - hell will freeze over before that happens.Supporting the RW&B, through good times and bad times.

NC
100% correct.
You might remember it was I who supported him here to remain as captain of the "New attitude, New beginning" policy.
The alcohol ban was not a good idea though.
It should've been a strong recommendation only.
Then you just drop anyone to Newtown citing injury or whatever if warranted....and there's no breach of club rules and no turmpoil in the media for 2 weeks.
...and no bad press for the club.

T Wood's prenup for example.
If they don't want him they should put him on the market and if he only gets a contract for $300,000 they should pay him the extra $100,000.
Maybe there's no clause in his contract that states he can't drink alcohol.
If no one else wants him ...well there's another problem.Last edited by bondi-boy; 08-17-2011, 06:55 PM.

If TC wants to use what's left of his footballing money to fight the Roosters (read Uncle Nick) in court so be it - he won't win and will lose plenty. Good lawyers aren't cheap, espec when you're paying for them yourself, rather than being afforded the luxury of the best courtesy of your club.

He seems to not care about what this looks like.
I cant see how Nick can justify keeping him.
The win last weekend only helped the team move on without him.
Including him now, even in the off season, what will that actually achieve?
He seems to need a fresh start somewhere else, i dont care where that is.

Simple solution, I stopped making promises I couldn't always keep.
I never tell lies. [well unless little white lies to make others feel better but do them no harm].
Broken promises and lies are different.
I'm 'sure' Carney meant the promises when he made them...but wasn't able to carry thru with them.
Way too hard, I'd say.
He went for counselling and lifestyle change classes at AA and the Salvation Army?
But after a few weeks people often revert to their old ways...it's the way they are...and change is hard.
If Captain Anasta is demanding to play 5/8, Mini is fullback[but only for one season], Pearce is halfback, then where is Carney going to play?
Left right out it seems to me.
But Anasta didn't play well at 5/8 in 2009....or this year in some games.
Me, I'd keep Todd and manage him...we need a goalkicker, Anasta is not it...Anasta will only be playing for one more year, as will Mini.
Hilarious how you think there's a difference between breaking a promise and telling a lie.
'Hey Todd.....please promise not to hit the turps this week!'
'I promise guys!'
Two days later....'At least I didn't lie to you guys, I only broke a promise, thats heaps better then lying hey dudes!'
